Get the Vice Admiral to confess??! Forgive me for being skeptical and dubious, Mildred!!

Interesting question you pose here, akin to the one all Hebrew School children are given at some point: If you knew what Hitler would do to the Jews and were able to kill him before it happened, would you? My curiosity is piqued here!

Also, I meant to mention how I LOVE Mildred's turn of phrases. One from several chapters back was "The powers that be wouldn't bring us all this way and then smoke us like flippin' kippers." That one made me laugh right out loud. In this chapter, it was her word "traumataters." It sounds like some kind of fancy spud concoction!! She is such a fun character. So much pluck and grit! xo

I wonder what the childrens' replies were. My gut reaction would be,'Yes, I'd bloody skewer him and roast him alive.' I wouldn't give it a second thought. After having killed Hitler, we now have millions of people alive and, hopefully living a long and happy life, but, and there is always a BUT, would we have someone worse? Would more people have died? Hitler was totally mad, we might have ended up with someone worse who wasn't mad, just cold and calculating, someone like the leader of ISIS who hated everyone who wasn't a radical Muslim. Given the anger the Germans had against the rest of the world, he would raise a bigger army than the ISIS leader had. It's a hard question, Rachelle, I wouldn't want anyone to die, except Hitler, but no one could know what the possible consequences would be. I hope that makes sense and I've not upset you. My aunt was a jew, she was rescued by my uncle, and English soldier, who smuggled her out of Austria when the Germans were rounding up all the Jews in that country. They ended up married and had two children. I loved listening to their story. My uncle was her hero! Both are gone now.

Mildred has so many fans, lol, she was just a little maid who wasn't going to figure much in the story, but she seems to have taken it over! Big hugs, my friend. xxxx

The rabbis' responsibility was always to tell the students that killing someone --anyone-- is never a solution in the eyes of G-d. My knee-jerk reaction is the same as yours (and probably most people's), but then, it would make us murderers, too. And that was what James pointed out to Mildred and Veronica, too, which I thought was exactly what a person who's been trained as a healer would say. That's why I love this story of yours, Sandra --you are so true to each of your characters! They are totally real and believable.

I LOVE this story about your aunt and her hero-husband. It's these vignettes that make the horrors of that time a little more tolerable.

Yes, Mildred absolutely shines. Who would play her in the screen version, do you think?
reply by the author on 29-Jun-2019
The Rabbis' are wise men. The average person couldn't just go out and murder someone in cold-blood, even if they knew it would be justified. We are not born that way. It's like the ending of my book, (I'm not telling you) but there are ways to make a person suffer for their crimes without killing them. Death could possibly be the way the villian would want to go once caught in his own quagmire, but his actual punishment would be far more satisfying to the victim. :))

Yes, I'm all about the suffering!! It's my right as a Jewish Mommie. In fact, a day without suffering means I simply must not have tried hard enough!!

We don't know what death is like. For all we know, it could be wonderful. But here on earth, we know how to bestow a life that is NOT so fabulous if you've done something despicable. Now I'm more eager than ever to read what happens to the horrible Vice Admiral! xo

Wonderful chapter. I'm glad I'm going back to fill-in the missing pieces. You are doing a wonderful job with this deliciously creative story.

I dropped my head back and looking up at the ceiling, I groaned loudly.-I really liked how you wrote this. something we've all done. That makes this so real. I really loved it.

Great job!

I have to give this a 6 for the humor factor, if nothing else, of Veronica and Mildred plotting different murder methods!

I AM curious as to how Mildred plans to get The Toad to confess to Gladys' death?

I shall stay tuned!

It's so good to have Mildred and Veronica back home together again - I've missed their banter, and the wonderful James with his loving ways and great advice. So, what's Mildred's idea to make the Vice Admiral confess? I can't see her using her body, so I'm intrigued!

-A good chapter, Sandra, especially
since Ver. and Mildred are back home.
-Their discussion with James is well
developed, and there is some humor
interspersed to keep things from getting too serious.
-Mildred is usually good for that!
-A good example is in the paragraph beginning, "I's not
goin' t' live in that other time! Lordy, no!"
-James is horrified at the information Ver.
shares with him and points out the
impact on the family and himself.
-They all know that they couldn't
alter things because of that.
-James has a good idea regarding
the ghost of Gladys.
-To round out the story, James shifts
the focus to the children and getting
them from school; Ver. and Mildred are
going to have tea, and then Mildred leaves
us wondering what it is that they can do!
-We await that in the next chapter.

Hello Sandra,
I told you Mildred would find a way. Now all she has to do is tell the rest of us. lol
This is another splendid chapter for the book. You've gone back to what made the first two books so good - Mildred, Veronica and James, solving a problem.
Maybe Gladys can scare the wits out him. Ghosts can do that, you know. And time travelers, too.
The humor works well in this chapter. That's another part of makes these stories tick.
Well done
Robert

You've been peeping again, haven't you??? LOL. Thank you so much, Robert, for this lovely review. Yes, I'm much happier when Veronica and Mildred are together, it doesn't feel right when they're not. Dear James comes in handy too!! LOL. They will be trying to sort things out together for a while before they are both sent back to do whatever the deed is that Mildred has thought of. :)) A big thank you for the six stars, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

Hi Sandra, another six for you. A very good conversational chapter, well written. Once again you've done it - leaving us with an idea of Mildred's that will not be revealed until we read the next chapter - how annoying...LOL! Keep up the good work - as if you needed me to tell you that - there's no stopping you. Talk to you later. Dorothy xxx

Mildred murdering the Vice Admiral would solve a lot of problems, but fortunately, James is there to point out the flaws in that plan. Finding Gladys might be the better idea.
The dialogue is humorous and sassy. I especially like when Mildred refers to the admiral as 'one of the devil's favourites.' Now that's someone who is really evil, and needs to be stopped.

A suggestion:
"It seems t' me, [you're](your) idea's the only way we can stop him."

This was an amazing chapter Sandra. At least Mildred is now aware of the Admiral's twisted way of thinking. I am sure no one really wants to be responsible for his death, but he needs to pay the price for what he has done and what he plans to do. It will be interesting to see how Mildred plans to get him to confess. Very much enjoyed, well done, hugs and smiles.

Thank you, Alie! What a lovely review. Yes, the V Admiral has to pay for his crime of killing poor Gladys, and must be stopped before he is responsible for the deaths of countless more sailors in the big upcoming sea battle. Lots to be sorted!! Thanks again, my friend, :)) Sandra xxx
