Sandra, Sandra, Sandra. You give me wonderful giggles like "Me stomach's flippin' like a tossed pancake." and then you make me gasp in fear with the almost-there-but-not-quite catastrophe in motion. OY! Bobby will be getting peanut butter and jelly for dinner tonight. He's just going to have to understand. xo

Do you know, I've never, ever had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I've only heard about them on here. What sort of jelly do you put on them? Is it like our Jelly and Ice-cream type jelly, or a jelly jam? I must try it one day. :)) xx

I am so sorry to read this!! But not to worry, Sandra, I've eaten enough in my life for BOTH of us...and for Bobby, too, because he's actually allergic to peanuts. They give him migraines. (I managed to squeeze in enough time to make a good, substantial real-life adult meal for him...but it was a sacrifice, since I REALLY wanted to read way more of your book.)

Jelly jam --and I, personally, like red raspberry.

That's Graham's favourite jam, too. I'm a blackberry and apple girl, so very scrummy. Do you think that would go with peanut butter? Hmm, sounds so weird to me. I might just give that a go though. I'll let you know what I think about it. :) xx
reply by Rachelle Allen on 28-Jun-2019
Blackberry would go great with pb. Apple makes me a little dubious. (or is it a combined flavor, blackberry and apple? If that's the case, I think that would be SUPER delicious with pb.) Let me know if you do it!
reply by the author on 28-Jun-2019
I will. Yes, the apple goes so well with blackberry, I make pies and crumbles with them as well. We always go blackberry picking in August and fill the fruit part of our freezer with them. I bottle my apples and use them as and when I want them. xx

Sounds scrumptious!! We have nothing as luscious as that combination here.

You've done a brilliant job building the tension and painting a picture of the effects of the Zeppelin bombings.

Poor Mildred! She must be terrified. :-(

Hi You Sweet Thing You, how have you been doing???...thought about you as I laid in the hospital the last 6 days...LOL...had some stomach trouble...they did a upper and lower GI...never again...I had an awful reaction to something...maybe when they put me to sleep...got back to the room...and felt like I was on fire...I was swollen...and bright red...my doctor walked in...said I was having a reaction...told the nurse to get some ice packs...and Benadryl...but I had my own so he told me to use it...by morning the red was gone...but not all the swelling...so I had to stay another day...the next day...I was in so much pain all over my body...I was shaking all over the place...finally I got in bed and got warm...the nurse came in the next day and said it scared her and the other nurse...I told her...you should be in here with me...LOL...the doc had me stay another night...I had to change my night gown twice that night...I was sweating so bad...finally the pain stopped...and I told the doctor I wanted to go home...I'm so sorry I missed reading your story...but I am back on my laptop again...I didn't take in to the hospital...they took some biopsy ...and the test will be back in two weeks...so that is what I have been doing....how about you???...I will be fine...been dealing with allergies my whole life...anyway..I lost 7 pounds...LOL...

now back to Veronica and Mildred...you could have at least got Mildred pulled out before you decided to have another cup of coffee...or a bowl of corn flakes...I am glad to see they found room for everyone in the lifts...but you know if plan A hadn't worked you could have used plan B...just picture the looks on every ones faces as you had people tied to gurneys standing up...every one would have wanted to know how much of the sacramental wine you had tasted...LOL...but plan A worked...now save Mildred...very well written my sooooo wonderful friend...love you lots of bunches...Linda xxoo

Oh, Linda! You poor thing! I never thought anything of it you not coming on to review because you are always off helping people or popping off on your world travels to see your mum and brother, or to see your daughter, Noah, or dog sit! In future you must tell me when you are going so that I know if you are in trouble. Not that I can do anything, but prayers and love are things that get to us without needing a road map. You must let me know what the test results are. That was one hell of a reaction!! I'm just so glad you're over it and now fully recovered. (you are fully recovered, aren't you???)

LOL, you haven't lost your amazing sense of humour, sacramental wine!! LOL, you are so funny! I'm sure some only go to church to fill up on that, it's the way they stagger back to their pews that give it away! Lol. Thank you, dear, for still managing to read this part after all you've been through. Love you back, millions.. Now, rest up and take good care of yourself. Sending you a massive (gentle) hug and lots more love. :)) Sandra xxxxxx

Hello sandramitchell
I actually had to slow down while I was reading your story of the evacuation of all the patients before the excepted bomb was going to hit (I presume is a hospital)
is great, I see where you left us in total suspense what is going to take place in your next chapter. Gert

Yes, it was a hospital, Gert, and fortunately they got all the patients out in time. Now it's Mildred who is in trouble. Thank you so much, my friend, for reading this part and the lovely review you gave it. I really appreciate that. Big hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

Hello Sandra,
An explosive chapter. Everything seemed to be going so well,
but, of course, that cannot be the case if it is to be a suspenseful story.
I guess nobody ever told Mildred (or Veronica), "never use an elevator (lift)
in a crisis, always take the stairs." lol
The action and tension is well done in this chapter.
It would be good if James or someone else discovers an old account
of how the patients were saved by an emergency practice drill just before the bomb stuck.
That way it won't appear that history was changed. It was all a part of history, even though M & V were not aware of it.
Very well done.
No sixes left, they were all trapped in the lift.
Robert
PS. I guess that watch was too heavy for Veronica to pick up. (I recall her lifting and throwing books in a previous novel.

Thank you so much, Robert, for another of your wonderful reviews. LOL How could I get them trapped on the lift if they had taken the stairs? I had to give Mildred a bit of excitement. We have the VA to sort out soon, so it will drop down a notch of two as plans are made. No worries ever about the 6 my friend, just so long as you enjoy what I'm writing and don't become bored with it. Big hugs my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

-A really good chapter, Sandra,
that keeps the story moving.
-There is a lot of activity getting the
patients and supplies organized, but
everyone realizes the importance of the task.
-You make very good use of vivid descriptions.
-Of course, the first big emotional issue
is the lad's concern over his dad's watch.
-We can feel his anguish since his dad had
given it to him for safe keeping until
after he got back from the war.
-I like how you have Ver. sense that Mildred was
going to do something about it; it is just her way.
-She and Ver. check things out, get the watch,
and then, things get really tense.
-We don't know what Ver. and
Mildred are going to do.
-The chance that Tommy could get Mildred
through the opening was hopeful, but just before
he could reach her, we are now in suspense as to
how things are going to work out.

Time was of the essence. Still did it surprise anyone that Mildred would go back for the watch? Now she's trapped in the lift, and bombs are falling, and tension is high. Will Tommy save Mildred? Guess I will have to read the next chapter to find out.
Another well-written, heart-stopping chapter that has me biting my nails.

Wow, Ms. Mitchell, I am a little bummed that it ended with a direct hit. The direct hit to what - the elevator, the whole hospital - the basement. I hate cliffhangers! No, I love them - this is awesome and I love the characters. I will wait patiently for more. Cheers, Fonda

Another wonderful chapter, Sandra. You had me gripping my seat and willing the evacuation to go smoothly - until I read your cliff-hanger at the end!
If I can suggest a couple of things. 'One important thing I hadn't thought of was how we could move the patients who had recently been operated on that day. - 'recently' and 'that day' imply the same thing, so suggest removing 'recently.' Also, I suggest removing the word 'almost' here, as it seems a bit redundant.
'Especially after last night's bombing, which had probably (almost) scared the life out of them.

I can't wait for the next chapter!

Sandra this is another great chapter in your story. This one kept me riveted and reading quickly. I am very curious as to how they are going to survive a direct hit.... keep them coming.
