Gees Chris, I'm sobbing! This is truly beautiful! I have come across so many elderly couples just like this one, each hanging on to the other as if they were their own private life raft in this sea of life and uncertainty. I really loved the title, is was really special and the picture accomanying it was perfect. The six is awared for all of the above. Now where is that extra box of tissues! :( Regards, Jan

You know, I think all of us poets/writers have a few favourites of their own, and this is one of mine. I'm thrilled you enjoyed this, as I am very proud of it. I cried when I wrote it, which tells me i'm a Master Narcissist (tho' I don't always laugh at my own jokes ...)!! Nah, this review makes me one VERY happy & proud lady; thanks so much xoxoxoxoxoxo

When you write these long stories they are so powerful they take your breath away. Another masterfully written piece. The emotion pours forth from your words. I can offer nothing that should be changed in this piece. Your skills are soaring. Excellent poem. Probably another top candidate for a poem of the month. Joyce

Ah, we'll see about that, eh? It just makes me smile that you think so much of my work, so for all accounts, it's a winner anyway. Thanks again, so very much, for always encouraging me my friend xoxoxoxoxoxo

Hullo Alpacalady ....
This is a beautiful piece of writing and I enjoyed reading what you have written. There is nothing that I would suggest changing really, although in a few lines, there is room for improvement in your metre.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
With love from .... Nanette Mary.

Thanks very much Nanette for your kind words and the 5 stars. Your observation of the meter being out is very astute - it is the very bane of my existence as commas and semi-colons are for me in prose! Will get it right one day...
Again, thanks so much for encouragement and observations! xoxoxoxoxoxo

I have written an article about how to attain a good, regular metre in the lines of a poem. If you send me your e.mail address through the message box, I will forward a copy of the article to you. Love - N.M.

This is really beautiful and so touching.
The imagery you have painted with your words gives way to a love so deep and abiding that calms even the darkest of beasts that manifest in the mind of times gone by. The beauty and adoration held for an angel so warm and gentle flows well from beginning to end, while the fear and anguish of the author gives one a sense of dread and failing. And then as if in acknowledgement, the angel smiles her precious smile, and he finally sees in her eyes what she has always seen, a man who is as good as better men.
This is awesome, I loved the journey taken and the experience it caused. Thanks and many blessings to you

This is a very well written and creative story in a poem; sad, but realistic and heartwarming at the same time; well done, no corrections!

What a beautiful poem. It's both sad and wonderful at the same time. I love the lines:
"Now I hold her wrinkled hand, the wedding band so thin
It lost its shine some years ago, as she's lost hers, within"
and
"Those violet eyes slide open, softly smiling once again
Within their depths, they show a man as good as better men."
Thanks so much for sharing this.

This is deeply profound and one can sense all the emotions of lives long shared together and facing loss. To have found one's soulmate after experiencing the horrors of war and loneliness was truly a blessing. The choice of wording and rhyme allow the reader to visualize each step along the way. Excellent. LadyMary
