What a sobering refection. Your description of the holocaust is well done. I felt your emotions throughout the poem. It is so sad to think of how people were so cruel. I hope something like this will never happen again.

Dear Brenda
Thanks so much for your thoughtful review. I am touched by your words and honour the feelings behind this poem. Yes, the Holocaust was a horrible part of history and we can and must remember it so it won’t happen again. I truly appreciate your feedback.
Bless you and take care

Yes, the world is full of horror. And the most horrifying thing to me are those who deny that the Holocaust even happened. Or, that it could happen again. Your poem is an important reminder of how humans need to be more humane towards one another

Hi June
I would like to thank you for your thoughts. The Holocaust atrocities are one of the clear examples of the worst aspects of the human nature, the things that happen due to ignorance and hatred. Denial and indifference will lead to the continuation of the horror. It was great to have your opinion about the poem if it touched you in the same way that it touched me and made you feel the need for humanity and compassion in the relationship between people.
Bless you and stay safe

This quatrain suite, Eighty Years since Liberation, has the proper formatting and celebrates the merciful redemption of those who survived the horrors of the Holocaust.

Haunting depressing as it should be. What a great poem to remind us to never forget the history which sadly, tends to repeat itself. Thank you for remembering the victims and good luck with the contest!

Thank you so much for your kind words. It was my intention to capture the haunting weight of history in order to honour those killed — your comments recognising that intention mean the world. I’m glad the poem hit home. Really, thanks for your support and for being so considerate.
Take care and bless you.

I'm so pleased you thought to use this 80 year anniversary as the theme for your quatrain verse. This was an absolutely horrific episode in history and, like yourself, I pray that lessons have been learned. Your post is a powerful reminder of the tragedy, particularly palpable in stanza 2. Well done and good luck! Debbie

Dear Debbie,
Thank you for taking the time to read and then pen a review of my poem, and share your reflections. I’m so glad that the second stanza spoke to you — it felt really important to me to root the weight of that history in images that stick. The 80th anniversary was my small way of using a framework to make sure we are keeping these lessons alive, even when the world wants us to look away. Your kind words and thoughts mean more than I can say. With grateful thanks for your kindness and solidarity in memory. Warmest thanks.

This is a most excellent poem. It is a sad story, but we must never forget. How another human being could be so evil and kill so many. This poem is well written and flows nicely.
Good luck in the contest.

You are right, Cecilia; we must never forget. I recently listened to a survivor's story. She was a young girl at the time and watched her parents and brother murdered.
Bless You

Oh, how awful that must have been for her.

"So let us stand where silence cries,
And see the truth through history's eyes.
For in remembrance, we find the way,
To hopefully build a brighter, kinder day. " What can I say more, you capture the essence of history and of a lesson that we seem to repeat on a different level through today's conflicts. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings and the contest.

I agree, Iza, that we are repeating ad naseum the brutality that man seems willing to inflict on innocent people, including children.
I despair. I really do.

I can't even imagine going through the horror that they all went through. We definitely have different kind of horror these days but nothing like what they went through your poem flowed well and each rhyme made your writing even more solid. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you, Lana, for your thoughtful review. I also cannot imagine the horror. I recently listened to a survivor's story. This elderly lady was a young girl then; her account is harrowing. And upsetting. I based my poem on her words.
