Your story brought back a few horror stories with my granddaughter. She was a star in softball - never quitting even when she got a line drive or slid into to second base skinning her legs. So she decided to do something more...basketball. The current star didn't like seeing some of her glory being spread on my granddaughter so she deliberately took her out as she jumped to shoot... torn ACL and meniscus tears too. The joys of sports.... I'm glad that Andrew's rocky road in sports didn't take too hard a toll on your relationship.
Smiles, Carol

I am glad that you do have a fantastic relationship with your son, Barbara. This must've been a difficult time for you both when it happened. Another well written chapter in your life story. I enjoyed reading it.

My precious younger daughter ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament, when she was a promising young netballer, (a game similar to basketball, played internationally, Australia are the dominant nation) she came back after surgery, it's a common injury with our footballers, even with good care, it takes a long time to heal. And even when my daughter came back, she was in pain, particularly in the winter, sorry for your son, one shouldn't play on after, damage can be permanent, well done Barbara, blessings Roy

"I was finished being nice, but I was polite." LOL, how did you pull that off?

I still see this kind of thing in the NFL; players are clearly hurt, yet the team requires they play anyway. Andrew probably did a lot of damage to that knee playing while injured, and the "team doctor" is responsible for that.

My "Mama Bear" would have come out too, Barbara. And I marvel at how much you had to manage while Brian was away.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for a descriptive rundown of the good and bad in medicos. He should have owned up and kept off the painkiller overdosing. An interesting story.

Knee injuries can be complex and very painful, I have arthritic knees and they play up sometimes. Thank you for sharing your son's story with us here and I hope this old knee injury does not trouble him as he gets older, love Dolly x x x

This is an interesting account of your son's leg injury. They hate to lose out on a sport they love. My granddaughter has had two surgeries on her foot that she apparently injured badly in soccer, the last one only 3 years ago when she was 29. You listened to the right people because the kid just doesn't tell us. The sentence that begins: After a lengthy conference . . . need a lot of work.

I was very pleased to be able to read your story about Andrew and his knee injury. You were the mother very concerned about her child rightfully and I enjoyed knowing that you are that caring of a mother. May you have a blessed day a very good week and may God bless you. Patricia

Strange that a man could go down to the field when Andrew was injured but a woman could not. Your reactions to his injury and your feelings about the chiropractor are well expressed. I've known of some athletes who have to change their career plans because of a permanent sports injury. Good that a doctor replaced that chiropractor. He certainly wasn't qualified to dispute the findings of the medical doctors and the need for surgery. You could tighten this up a bit. Concentrate on the important stuff and built the tension, like you do in your novels. For instance, do you need all the information about the team's previous record? Another example of where you might trim things--first paragraph, you could cut wording to something like "We were living in South Carolina in the fall of 2003." This was life-changing for your son, if it meant he couldn't attend West Point after his injury. judi
