This has that famous O Henry twist, and you set up the embarrassing moment when your suspicions are not born out, quite well. Of course we suspect the two cherubs. It is a great little fable that preaches that time honored virtue; never judge a book by its cover. estory

Hmm, this is a nice short story. It has wholesome elements that will be appealing to mothers everywhere. Also, it made the kids good, the mother apologetic and the dad... well, he's the man, so the blame falls to him.
But I would reconsider the dad's final words. Would he say that (Yes, it brings the entry full circle) but would he, with a broom and dustpan in hand?

An excellent entry for the What Happened writing prompt. Good plan of action, mom! Go for the ice cream when you screw up. lol Kids are tough. We try hard to believe them but sometimes the circumstances are too overwhelming for them to not be guilty. Good story. Good luck in the vote.

Your story had me smiling from start to finish! I could feel the humor in this family moment. I loved how you captured both mischief and innocence from the twins. The twist with the husband taking responsibility was perfect! It wrapped everything up so sweetly. Well done!

It's amazing us parents how often we can jump to conclusions without having the full story. It's usually in a child's nature to be a little deceptive. Your poem rings true in so many families. I like how the children got treated at the end with a treat being that it wasn't their fault that the parent assumed that they had been the ones to break the vase. That's a great lesson for most parents to humble themselves when they're wrong.
