This is a great reflective cooling description:"Having spotted a building that interested her, she had paused her journey and found herself resting under the sprawling branches of a gnarled tree. Its shade was a welcoming respite." This will hold the reader at attention.
"She hovered near the doorway to ensure her escape if necessary." A good ending

Hi Carol,
I got behind on your story while I was on vacation. I'm going to quickly try to catch up, but will just point out any edits if I see them.

hateful men accused me and hung me from the tree out back.
(Should be *hanged*. I meant to mention this in an earlier chapter but forgot. From Grammerly.com:

The past tense of hang

Hung is the past tense of to hang when it means "to suspend or be suspended."

Hanged is the past tense of to hang when it means "to kill someone by tying a rope attached from above and removing the support from beneath.)

Thanks for that note... wonder why my grammerly didn't think it necessary to tell me. One demerit for them. I'll change that asap. Glad you are enjoying.

A chapter full of drama, frightening bikie drama. Years ago when there were always a lot of bikie movies, they terrified me, and you had that same fear with this chapter. Glad Eleanor was there, I shall be cheering her on from Aus. Well written,
cheers,
valda

    Excuse the cut and paste...
I'm traveling to North Carolina to spend some time with my Great Granddaughters (and enjoy Keyanna's national soccer tournament). It's like a whirlwind at the moment, but I do appreciate your time and especially your enjoyment of my story. Hope to get back to it soon. Thank you as always.

So Eleanor goes searching from Matthew and it leads her to the place Rebecca has inherited and the ghost of the girl who was hanged and is not taking care of Donatelli.

Oh! GREAT chapter! Miriam is a ghost? The ghost! I am always thrilled when you sneak up behind me and throw an entirely unexpected new perspective down!

Donatelli will be found... (yay)--- and Rebecca will be up to her adopted knees in spirits of a family she never knew about.

I love Eleanor when she's on her best game! (Isn't she always?)

Woo hoo.

Onward!

i love Eleanor too...but she's going to have to get out the fighting armor soon because bad things are going to happen to good people. Get prepared! And thank you for the awesome comments and the stars. Love ya, Carol

Wow that was an intense scene, Carol. It was horrific seeing what happened to Crystal and I could feel Eleanor's horror as she was watching the scene unfold and then Matthew. You've definitely got me excited for the next chapter. I really enjoyed reading it.

I thought that's where he might be. So Miriam is a ghost! It is fgood that Eleanor has sensed Matthew's presence. However this is not the place for Rebecca to live with that nearby dangerous bar. Well written. Very interesting developments.

That was a nasty scene to start with but definitely an attention grabber. So, this is the ghost who has saved Donatelli and is hiding him for fear those who tried to kill him will come back. It sounds as if Rebecca is going to have a hard time claiming her inheritance. The nearby town seems to have a lot of nasty people living there or keeping the good people prisoner there. One of your sentences is missing something: small general a few hundred . . . (general what?)
