"Grasping at matchsticks in a flood" is a fine expression showing desperation. There is a saying that there are none so blind as those who don't want to see - and that is an essential spiritual reality, unfortunately.

The mystery of man....everyone sees things different, colored by their own wishes and what they think is the truth. The total truth lies in the Light of the Lord, and unless we accept that, we will be washed away in the flood.

Amen! So many people are blinded by a certain way of thinking - that by political power, they can work for God's will. But they are just grasping at "matchsticks in the flood" and are being used by the evil one. They don't realize that depending on human power will only cause more grief. Well said, Roy!

"a foil foil for Satan's plan." This maybe a typo, I like the start here your take on (needles in a haystack) is wonderful, as we do seem to be grabbing for the hardest/impossible things, very well written****kahpot

Great biblical references, Roy!!!

Why are so many people bound and blind to the truth? It seems plain as day to me.

You are a talented poet, my friend.

People see and believe only what they want. It is a sad way to live this I am not. I believe God sent His only Son to die for me and my sins so I may live free under Him. I wish others believed that to. Thank You for sharing.

I really like the emotion in your poem! The idea of "grasping at matchsticks in a flood" - for me it shares the desperation of trying to find hope in overwhelming circumstances. Your poem leaves anyone that reads it a lot to ponder, and that's wonderful. Keep up the fantastic work!
