What a charmingly cute short story. Everyone needs a little make-believe in their lives. Their own personal Mr Pendleberry. Thank you for reminding me of mine.

What a fun little fantasy offering... and quite the offering that invites the reader (and author!) to further adventures... yes? :-) Great story-telling: does not get bogged down in details yet moves the story along with great description and action... Thanx for sharing! ;)

Congratulations on a hundred posts! I thoroughly enjoyed this fantasy story, which had just the right amount of realism. Very thought-provoking too with its subtle messages. An excellent story to celebrate 100 posts.
Well done.

What an adorable story which I greatly enjoyed! I love the idea that we see so much more when we believe in ourselves and others and want to learn more so that new opportunities open up to us all the time. Your fairy story has a timeless feel to it and reminds me a bit of Alice in Wonderland. Thanks for sharing, Barry, and congrats on your milestone! Take care Debbie

Barry, congratulations on your milestone post.
Your story is quaint and unique; the ending is a nice surprise.
I like the metaphor of Mr. Pendelberry, himself. If only everyone had eyes like Ben -- seeing good in people.
Nice story, Barry.
Good luck in the contest,
Cindy

I enjoyed reading your highly imaginary story--or was it? Only Mister Pendleberry would know for sure. It's a fun story with a good lesson--all the essentials of a successful children's book. My only suggestion would be to change multiple words throughout the story to contractions. Then, the story would flow even better. I would love to see it illustrated. Your character descriptions and the plot was fantastic. gayla

I loved the name Mister Pendleberry and I loved the air of mystery you created about him in his conversation with Ben which I found really engaging. A well written piece, Barry, I really enjoyed reading it.

Okay, this story is so charming and warm and deep and thought-provoking that it put me into Makebelievian. My daughter (who, in places that are not Makebelievian, is 42-1/2) is four again, and we just brought this home from a boutique bookstore. She is sitting on my lap in the bentwood rocker in her lemon yellow room, and we are loving every word together. We finish, and she says, "Can you read it again?"
This is SUCH a fabulous story on so many levels. It presents as a children's book, but the grown-ups reading it can feel the weight of its allegory, and THAT comes from the finest writing.
Exceptional job...on a night when I have no sixes left. I'm so sorry about that Barry. IOU. xoxoxo

What a lovely, lovely story you have written here dear friend, I love it, and it's certainly unique with a theme that's not quite like anything I've ever read before. It was a classic, a very good story to tell little ones, and so well written, great job Barry for your 100th post, well done, blessings Roy
