With the name Fernando and a story about a bull, I immediately thought of the kids' story Ferdinand (about a young bull who didn't want to fight)

I'm not sure what happens in the transition with the judge. There seemed to be a change in scene there from bullfight to something else, or maybe it was revealing the bullfight as a metaphor for some other (grotesquely unfair) situation.

A couple typos:

The he blew away in a strong ev'ning breeze
(Then he blew...)

The judge called loud; "Gent's it's time if you please."
(No apostrophe: ..."Gents, it's time...)

You should put a reference to your quote in the notes...I had no idea where it was from (till I googled it!)

Thanks for sharing, Bob!

I don't think I would ever want to see a bullfight. For one, there is the gore, but for the other, it is such an unfair and disturbing clash between the bull and the man. Your story was interesting and amusing at times. Well done.

Fifty years ago, back in '74, I actually went to one. To me it was truly a cowardly event, The bull was firstly taunted and tormented, and then physically injured, and slowed the bull by a number of wanna' be matadors, who all remained near the protective barriers which they hid behand when the bull charged near. Then came the kill. In my eyes, there was ONE brave creature in the ring. And it was the BULL.

Thank you for participating in the Finding Your Muse event.

Great entry with a wonderful example of a quote poem--beautiful presentation and imagery.

Good job,

Gypsy

Great imagery, gee that sounds fantastic, but I think my response was more closely related to 'pathetic poeticising,' Hope there's such a word.

A wonderful build up of the fight, Bob, I could almost have been there although I wouldn't want to have been:( I was just a bit confused at the end as to what exactly happened. If you have time, could you possibly explain? But your verse read effortlessly and with enjoyment. Well done! Debbie

I've revised the end. With an appropriate. As always, the wife has the last word. Or is this case, four words. 'She tells him too.'
Hope that provides your answer. We POOR men.

Thank you for sharing this club entry with us. I have been to bullfights in Spain and in Portugal. This entry had a fun flow to it. I enjoyed reading. I'll try not to be too complimentary, so your wife won't have to bring you back down to earth. LOL

The Judge fell to his knees (judge, because of 'The')

Barbara, how much would you charge to be my editor. I'm not sure if I'm lazy or just incompetent. Jeanette says guilty on both accounts.

I miss things in my own post. I read it as those it's right. When people point it out, I want to kick myself for not seeing it.

I have been to a bull fight in Madrid and it is not a pretty sight. The bull suffers and bleeds and it makes him angry. It was mid-summer and I was 16 years old and the heat was unbearable. The matadors are fit and skilled and I have seen them run for their lives. You brought the scene to life with your poem Bob and I feel inspired to write a poem about the Bullfight myself now, ha ha ha, love Dolly x x x

We may have been at the same bullfight, for me it was 1972. Sadly I don't remember a whole lot other than being disgusted at the unfairness of the event. The poor bull was half dead before, or at least significantly slowed before the 'brave' matador entered the arena. A real fair fight. And of course, the bull lost.

Are these posts you post things written in the past or have your authorial juices resume flowing like water through a break in a dam? You have been more busy than in the past, as have I, finally, at last. It's been boring only reading others offerings.

Actually, this shouldn't have been posted, it's not yet completed. I'm planning to add a couple more verses in the next few days. Once completed I'll repost it. Thanks, as always Tom.
