I hear violins if this is ever made into a country song. I love it. It so well deserves the best rating. Outstanding verse, especially the refrain. I hope it is published music someday. The lyrics have a soft dreamy lilt. You wonder about why the wife stays but give her credit, perhaps she loves her man as well. This eloquntly explains her faith: "She's been holding on to what she found in me,
but, how long can that woman stay here by my side? " It sadly expresses his fear of her loss where he may be lost as well. GOOD LUCK GOD BLESS

Thank you for the author notes for as I was reading I thought that the wife is really in a submissive abusive relationship & not so certain that I would want to hear a song on those terms unless I was also feeling bad myself, however, we all have bouts of doubt & fear & some even take to the bottle thinking the one we live with is an angel & that we believe we love them only to find out that if we truly loved them we would change.
Now, to judge the writing itself, it is good, done well, & the music will sound great as it hauntingly whispers it's melody & beat in the background. Of course one must be drinking to appreciate the fullness of the song. Like Hank's are in the same category & have become popular hits. It has a catchy hook & flows well.

There is no greater thing than having a strong woman by your side. And having the one who truly loves you will always stay by your side no matter what. Us women are awesome that way! If only men could do the same..........
Your poem is full of emotion and heartbreak. And it is also very sad. I say that because the man knows he has a great woman but yet he won't stop drinking. Because he knows she'll always be there.
Great writing and good job

This sounds like a Johnny Cash ballad. To bad he is gone otherwise you might have a sale with a couple more verses. You reach out to us with your soliliquy with a Johnny Walker twist. Rhyme perfect and its lyric quality carries you throughout.

Spellbinding. I love it! I am glad I ventured into poems today and found this work of art. I don't think "talented" is a big enough adjective to use about you Mr. West. I know I have been profuse with my compliments but, I mean them all. I will say again...I loved it!
Always,

I am not a real fan of country music, so if you like this, I think that is all that matters. The story is easy to follow and the meaning is not hidden in gobbledygook. Good luck to you.

Excellent poem. I enjoyed this writing.
See was over in the corner when I came home tonight.
once again Jack Daniels helped me see the light.
The only peace I find here in the valley is when she gives herself to me.
There may be no such thing as angles but I got one here with me.

"They say there's no such thing as angels, well, my woman's wearing wings.
She's the rock that I still lean on. The gold inside our wedding rings.

Absolutely! I love this chorus... makes me want to sing (trust me, you don't want me to) :(
I have a few poems that i've often thought would make good country songs (one of them actually was)... you're a storyteller, and I find that so intriguing!
For me, touching others with our words is the best feeling in the world, and I can tell that it is for you as well.
Thanks for sharing so much of yourself.

Alcoholism is the scourge of many loving, caring families and relationships, there's no doubt about it, Brett. No addiction is healthy, but alcohol affects not just the one getting drunk, but often times the families involved as well.
These lyrics are extremely well written. Me being a country music fan from way back, I've always appreciated the moral values and messages many country songs impart. These catchy lyrics are certainly no exception.
Great work, and congratulations on all of your All-Time Bests...~Dean
