Ha ha - his little face - I wonder
what he was thinking.
I loved your poem, Brooke - so apt...
and most enjoyable.
Bless him.

Thank you so very much, Margaret :-) I'm sitting her listening to the tragic news of the mass shooting in D.C. - at times like this one needs some humor. Brooke

The news is so depressing, it makes me cry when I watch it.
Have you read Dean Kruch (I think his name is) latest poem - it's so lovely and touching - have a look if you've time. It's the one with the picture of the world above it. M

I'll have to check it out

What a perfect picture for a great poem. Your poem goes beyond just telling a story. Tt shows how boys manage to get into trouble. Good luck in the contest.

Of if only it were that easy to rid the world of mischief and mischief makers. This is a very pleasing poem as it tickled the ears and eyes. I don't know how you did it, but whomever got Sawyer to take on that look and then snap the photo is a genius. This is just another example of the strength of your enormous body of work. Another very fine work.

nomi, thank you so very much :-) My daughter doesn't get him to act out a look for a photo - she just keeps her eye out for his many delightful expressions and snaps them when it's possible. And then I use her amazing photos to inspire my poems :-) The most I ever do is encourage her to take more prop pictures where he's doing something. Brooke

What a great poem! This is yet another one that put with some pictures would be a great children's book. And that look on Sawyer's face is priceless. Another great job!

This is really clever. I love the easy rhythm and simple rhymes. The non fuss structure allowed me to concentrate on the humour and the very cute narrative. This should entertain all sorts of people with a funny bone.

Ha! Somebody needs a nap, indeed! What a poem to tease an evil-tempered child with. A great way to maintain one's sense of humor and perspective. Love it, Brooke! :) Nancy

Lol! This is a very funny poem indeed. And I enjoyed the wicked tale which it told. I have only one complaint:
How could you use Sawyer's image for this nasty story?
Ha-ha!

This has wonderful rhythm and flow. And Leander is an inspired choice of name: the tragic figure in Greek mythology who lost his way at sea when his lover's guiding light went out, and he drowned. I hear echoes of this in your poem! Your Leander is also quite a tragic figure, drowning in his own darkness, can't see the light, and tries to rob others of theirs:
'He stole their honey from the bees
and perfume from the flowers'
'He pilfered spots from butterflies'
And my favourite:
'He grabbed the hop away from frogs,
he swiped the sour from pickles,
and if a baby tried to laugh,
he took away its tickles'
What absolutely fabulous imagery!! Such a pleasure to read.

Sawyer's evil look was the perfect inspiration for this piece. I like the way you took the theme and ran with it. Definitely a fun read.

Well, now here indeed is a novelty. Humor poetry that is actually funny! That photo is priceless and the story to go with it is a scream. Now, that is just my opinion. The ones that matter live next door in the form of 4 kids, ranging from four to ten years of age. They found this piece to be absolutely hilarious. It is funnier than my silly voices and crazy old man imitations which are legendary in the neighborhood. So, there you have it. I think you should write some children's books if you haven't already. Warmest regards, mike
