Yes Dean Kuch, I agree with you there will always be monsters hiding under the cloak of a human specie. Human beings born to human parents yet acting like psychic vampires who bleed people they come in contact with their venomous tongues and breed with the pain and agony of others. God bless, thanks for sharing this poem.

I admired your vivid description of these dark, devious souls. Your use of the first person adds to the immediacy along with the dramatic presentation. I've been fortunate to avoid these "Ambassadors" throughout my life but agree with Steinbeck's conclusion. Cheers- Joan

They are walking among us - as Steinbeck says, they wear the mask of humanity and effect the mannerisms of human beings, but they are something else, something not quite right. Is the soul what gives humans compassion and the desire to commune with each other? Is the soul what keeps normal people from doing egregious things? That is the question, isn't it?
Cheers

Dean, this writes begs a question often asked about the scripture Romans 9:21-23 New International Version (NIV)
21 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?
22 What if God, although choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath--prepared for destruction? 23 What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory--
Yikes, a free will and election discussion.
I do wonder about some people who seemed to born that way. Guess that one will go in my question pot for God someday.
Sound rhyme and meter. Well done. :0 GracieAnn

You have presented this extremely well - both in sound, color and word. I can see that such a person has had a desvastating effect on you. I like the alliteration of the hard consnant sounds - very reminiscent of biting or chewing or attacking. Excellent choice of words: (black, attack, silken, lack, mask etc.) I also like the metaphor of Ambassador from a fiery hell. Excellent.
To answer your question - ah yes, they are everywhere. Interesting perspective on this poem - a frightening subject.

Creepy good verse. It grabs on and won't let go, just like the creatures you describe. Love the rhythm which adds a sinister tone to the rhymes.
I think I might have met one or two people that fit this description, but I don't stick around to find out. There it fun creepy--we like to be scared when there is no harm involved--and then there is the kind of creepy that raises goose bumps on your soul. I'll take the fun pretend kind thank you.

YES I HAVE MET A PERSON LIKE THIS WHO HAS NO SOUL,NO LOVE, NO FEAR OF GOD FOR IT DON'T BELIEVE IN SUCH I WAS TOLD ONE DAY. IT TRIED TO DO ME HARM BUT ALAS I HAD THE UPPER HAND AND BANISHED SAID ONE FROM EVER BOTHER ME AGAIN. IF LEFT DYING ON THE STREET THIS PERSON WOULD NOT REAP THE HELP IT WANTS TO RECEIVE.

Sometimes, it's hard to separate the picture from the poem.
Sometimes the poem changes the picture.
Sometimes to two feed off each other.
This is a case of both b & c
I read it the first time with the black and white photo in mind...and saw it as a horror succubus vampire - reflecting a human predator's soulless mind, mirroring what he will become.
I re-read it and saw instead the personification of a man's evil acts haunting him and paving the road to insanity. Much like the Portrait of Dorian.
Excellent write! :-)

Very deep, Sir! This is one dark illustration of the reality that exists around us!
"I've got no soul...do you?" - I have. That's why I'm not doing my "enemies" any form of harm. But I am wicked. In my mind, I've slayed my enemies many times. The perk is - I have a soul to correct me.

Steinbeck is correct. People who lack feelings are called sociopaths. They are born with bad wiring and nothing can be done to change them. Look for them in prisons and mental institutions. Sometimes, charming on the outside but empty within.
