I have been scammed more then once Jay. I was stupid enough to let then into my computer. I outsmarted them at Walmart. I was able to let the cashier know what was going on, without talking. I raced home and closed my puter before they knew it. I lived very close. We live in an evil world. The good guys will win in the end. XO Blessings B

Well ... the only problem was that I trusted who I thought was the good guys as it were, and they DID win in the end. But I know what you mean. Your blessings are humbly accepted.

And after my heartfelt condolences, would you not want to change your mind and have the police file the scam victim's report, so hopefully they will get those people so they can't ruin anybody else? And if they do find them, why can't they do something about getting the victim's money back? The scammers must hit more people than you, and probably have lots of money. Did your family agree that it's not worth pursuing? Jay,

No, I am happy to have your level-headed urgings. Unfortunately, since it was all handled on the phone, and since the police told me that once the numbers are given out the "bad guys" have the value of the cards. It was truly a "gift card" to them. But I DO thank you for your doggedness in wanting me to pursue the report. If I thought the police would pursue it and if it would do any good, I would file it. Love you, Katharine!

well, shoot, Jay. I hate for the scammers to have that edge. I know you did all that you could.
The only thing that would have been warning bells to me was when they didn't want you to talk to your family- or anyone but them. No use rehashing it, though.
To change the subject, I keep thinking about that play. Throughout your long writing career, you don't know or have access to a young person starting out who writes music? You know, a young person's music today might be just the hook you need. Usually, it's older adults who go to plays, but if you could hook the young, too??? Of course, they'd have to do it for fun, for the creativity of it, the challenge???
And then there's who to submit it to?
I get things on my computer from people saying they are looking for play writes. Just a thought. I loved your lines in that play. I think it could be a wonderful comedy. And Lord knows we need one.

I do need to dig up that play again and explore it afresh after those months have past. Judi keeps after me to submit it to a college, but then I was a pre-scam 84. Now I feel like a post-scam 90. Just kidding there. I feel better just knowing that people like you are steering me to the life-side of living. Slowly, my self-confidence is returning. Love ya ...

Thank you for sharing this with us. A couple of years ago, my computer was hacked in a very similar way. When I got the Microsoft notice, something didn't feel right, so I turned it off and the next day took it to a computer doctor, yes, I had been hacked. He said I did the right thing. Only because I listened to that very small voice inside. It happens to many people. I promise I am praying for you.

The same thing happened and someone from Dell call and tell me I'd been scammed, but they could restore my computer for for $200. I got someone who like Jennifer and gave me numbers and got on my computer remotely. When she started talking gift cards, I got suspicious and hung up. So I was only out $200. But for the next two years, I got calls almost daily from a foreign voice telling me they a message some scam was going on with my computer.Telling them I no longer had the computer and hanging up was my response. Not that they believed me. I'm glad you've got a loving family that understands. Maybe that story can bring in enough to start rebuilding your funds. You have done a great service by sharing it.

There is one big solace to all this. You have been wiped out financially, but you do have a family who loves you very much and cares deeply for you.

They knew all about you, but continued. Obviously thinking you were an easy target at 80+ All I can say is, I hope when they are old, someone comes up with a believable scam on them. I'm truely sorry this has happened to you, but you have a very loving family, and they care so much for you, even your ex wife loves you.
