Thank you for this so very encouraging, wonderful review, Wayne. It was a wonderful way to begin Thanksgiving Day, reading this. xo

That was amazing writing, Rachelle, you're a very talented lady in so many ways.
I'm glad that father sent that to his daughter, and can understand what he was saying, and how he felt once he realised what he'd done to her. Now, she understands, too. This was an amazing, well written story, my friend. Well done. I'm sure this will be in the story of the month contest. Love and hugs, my friend. Sandra xxx
My regret with my own father is that he died before I'd written my first novel. I know he would be proud, he was the one who gave me the love of reading and, later, writing. I just wish the rest of my family would read my books, if it wasn't for my friends on FS, I would have given up long ago, just like Tessa. xxx

Whaaaaaat? I find this just heart-wrenching!! You are SO talented. I can't believe you aren't celebrated as ROYALTY in your family!! Give me their addresses; I'm heading over there right now to deliver the wrath of your favorite redhead!! I'm so sorry this is the case, Sandra. But for SURE your father is proud of you...just from his "perch" rather than here physically at your side. And definitely all of us on FS think you're incredible. (plus you're very humble about it, which is additionally wonderful.)
Thank you for these extremely caring and encouraging words about my piece. When an incredible writer says such things, it's like a balm for the soul. Thank you. xoxox

Lol, I could just see you doing that. I'm writing another time-travel with Mildred and Bessie. I had to bring them together after being asked by people on here to bring Mildred back, and then others wanted Bessie. I enjoy writing, so I'd carry on anyway. Perhaps after I've joined my dad, my family might pick up my books and have a read. I've heard that happens. People have busy lives these days.
I really enjoyed reading your story, and wished I had a six left. It deserved one. Love you too. my friend. xxxxxx

I imagine every adult child longs to read this admission from their father before they pass away or at least afterward in a form of a letter made out to you to be read after he passes away. This is the thing you have been waiting for all of your life. And finally, he has admitted that he loves your unpublished manuscript and will give you an advance and publish it before he passes. What a lovely gift to receive and yet to believe all that time that he wasn't impressed with your work is regrettable and sad.

Strong daughters of strong fathers have a complicated relationship. If I sound like someone who knows that first-hand, it's because I do. I adored my father, but he was a perfectionist and insisted I be, as well. So my abilities to always over-reach and over-achieve and always land on my feet I owe to him and appreciate every day. Tough love is also big love. I miss him dearly, but appreciate the way he left me able to achieve anything I set my mind to. That's quite the gift.
Thank you for totally "getting" every aspect of that. This was a fabulous review to receive.

I always love it when I get the gist of a work I have read. Happy Thanksgiving!

Wow, what an intense relationship. It's too bad that the father couldn't express his feelings while he was still alive but yet, that harshness gave Tessa the strength to succeed no matter what. Fabulous descriptions here like words that "look like sparrows on a wire, bracing against a vicious onslaught." Virtual six!!

I'll take it with great appreciation and gusto! Thank you. xoxox (And PS, who knows better than you the disconnect between what a father could/should say and what he does?) xoxoxo
-
💖 Actually, "disconnected" is probably the best way to describe my dad's speech and behavior lately. He's being watched because of subdural hematomas in the hospital but he's so combative, the staff wants to discharge him. Sigh.
-
It's probably that feistiness that's enabling him to battle his disease. My MIL is the same way. She's 94 and so extremely scrappy that she was given a private room!! She couldn't get along with any of the residents (or the nurses or aides).
-
Wow. My dad is 93. How do people in their 90s have such energy? Whew!
-
We'll be like that, too!
-
But we'll be positive and loving and caring of others with our energy! 💖💖🙏
-
That we will!

Here I sit, 12:51 AM.... Happy Thanksgiving, Rachelle! Rest assured I've begun my holiday wiping tears away, so thankful that I've come to know you and had the good sense to become a fan early!!!
This is very well written. I've had the luxury to read it through twice and thus appreciate your turns of phrases all the more...
Bravo!

Thank you times a million zillion. This story is so different from my usual fare lately that I just was NOT sure how it was going to be received. This gives me a little wiggle room in thinking it was okay to post it. I appreciate the additional star, Karenina. Happy Thanksgiving to you, too. xoxoxo

Love the story! You're always impressive, Rachelle! So glad I had one more six to present. You earned it!

Great colorful story. Very good from beginning to end. I saw no grammatical errors and enjoyed your great grasp of the English language.
There was one sentence that was unclear:
The problem was that I was not ready to give in yet, myself, let alone watch you do so.
( maybe lose the word 'myself'). Just my two cents.
Regardless, story was captivating. Great work!
