All praise goes to God and the dissolving bit of your magnesium tab! You had me on the edge of my seat... Your account of your panic and fleeting thoughts pulled me right in the drowning pool with you... As you sucked in breath, so did I! To think that all of magnificent life can come down to an untimely chuckle. It's humbling. Take not one moment for granted! Elated you are here to tell us about it!

Thank you, Karenina. I love that about the "untimely chuckle". I'm a very private person. If I died in the shower, I'd hope I would have the foresight to cover myself.

Seriously! Isn't it whacky the things we think about? Let's just think about (cue the Bee-Gees) "Stayin' Alive!"

    Smile..................

A great piece and I found myself taking some deep breaths as I read your story. Life is short and always unpredictable. Sometimes, I wonder if things like this episode or hundreds of others similar in nature happen to us as reminders that we are not in control. I tend to go with the supernatural, but regardless of whether they are the result of supernatural -- super carelessness on our parts - they are needed reminders that life is short and every minute is important. Maybe also a reminder not to take pills while watching a comedy!!!! Love it and so so glad you are here to tell us about it ann

Thank you, Ann! Indeed life is short, even if you live it long.

You did lead us on a hair-raising journey to the throat of death and I do know the feel because I thought the pulp of an orange was about to take me out at one point. It is had to imagine the back of the throat having an opening no bigger than a plump M & M, but the experience seemed real so I'll not question it. You need to share this story with Roseana. If she thinks you might actually need her, she might decide to come off the mountain or would that be too stressful you. In lieu of that, I believe I would cut those tablets in half.

The tablet cutting is the easier solution, Beth. Thank you for finding a six for me. That means a lot.

My goodness, Sir Jay! I wanted to jump into my computer and save you from your undeserving death. However, I wasn't sure I'd be able to navigate through all the emotion and fright you so skillfully penned. This was mind grabbing and certainly scary as it could happen to any one of us. I'm afraid to say I enjoyed it. So, I'll simply tell you, I'm happy you made it.

Thank you, John for reading and for your kind feedback. I'm glad you empathized with my plight. From the sound of my replies, a lot more people are going to start cutting their pills in half.

Talk about a close shave, there have been a few popular writers that have vanished from these pages in recent times, and I hope you wouldn't have been one of them Jay. Fame is much overrated, particularly to mortally aware like you and me, beautifully written my friend, in technicolor no less, glad you're still here. Blessings Roy

Glad you enjoyed the technicolor, Roy! It was scary and I did my best to bring everyone along with me.

I think that it is good that you have survived from that terrible ordeal. It isn't easy turning and we are all going to face it. Excellent work! No grammatical errors. Good luck!

Thank you, Raul. I'm a bit like Woody Allen who said, "I'm not afraid of dying. I just don't want to be there when it happens."

Reading your story reminds me how blessed I am to be here. That was a horrific experience. You gave vivid details of this ordeal throughout the story. Glad you made it through. Best wishes in the contest.

Thank you, my friend. Yes, we should all feel blessed, and learn to cut our pills.

Thank God, you are OK. I know how scary being choked can be, struggling for the precious air. I've choked on cornbread and thought I was a goner. As an RN, I one time had to blow a pill down a woman because it wouldn't come out. That's too long of a story for here. Thanks for sharing your well written story. I'm glad you're doing OK now. Enjoy your weekend. Shirley

I wondered as I wrote this if "blowing it through" would be an option. Air ... It's a wonderful thing, isn't it?

I take a gigantic potassium pill, twice a day. I have worried about choking on it. Matter-of-fact when my doctors prescribed it, he warned me about the size. I will from now on cut it in half. Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us, for many reasons. Good luck with the contest and please be careful. I, for one, would miss you.

Please do cut it in half, Barbara. Or thirds. Or pulverize it and mix it with a quarter cup of water.

    I will.

This is a great story of caution when taking an oversized pill. I'm so glad you have recovered from it. You are much young than the 90 years old writer here, Jaybird. He has the same name as you. My son was choked by a piece of peapod in a Chinese restaurant a long time ago. He couldn't breath. I gave him water and it helped after trying hard to pound his little back.

Well done and good luck. Sorry I don't have any six stars.

Don't worry about the six. I had to post it early because the contest ends at 9 PM (LA time) And I was afraid I wouldn't return from a birthday party in time to post. So, Jaybird is 90, huh? I thought I was the oldest.
