This is beautiful, Roy. It would take a strong person to overcome all that tragedy, and they might have moments of weakness. I think God understands that. He understand when we're puzzled by His decisions, or when we question His ways, but in the end, we know He had a reason for it all.

Your poem is excellent in every respect--skillfully and creatively written, moving ang probing in its message, and very descriptive. It is easier to praise God when all's well, more challenging in the situations you have described. God will increase the faith of those who ask--believing.

I am very familiar with the song 'It is well with my soul' but I did not know the story behind it. Thank you for sharing that and your wonderful poem. God does not promise us a trouble free life, but that He will be there to help us through it.

As usual, you've put out a beautiful piece.
Reminds me of the trials and tribulations of Job...
And through it all, he still kept the faith!...
Didn't see any faults, your rhythm and rhyme are spot on...
My compliments, my Friend!

Great poem you have written, Roy, asking if we could be like the courageous man who penned that beautiful song, in the midst of great trials. We may not always be glad about the things we go through, but by the grace of God, we can still praise Him no matter what comes our way.

I sincerely wish I had a six left to give you. This speaks to my heart and almost reads like a song as well. I know the story behind this song and it is one of my favorite songs to sing around the house. Thank you Roy for using your talent for the Lord. Your dedication is a bright ray of sunshine!

I love that song, Roy. Horatio certainly had a lot of faith to be able to take all those tragedies and still say it is well with my soul. He must have had a very close relationship with God. This is lovely. Well done. Nancy:)

Hi Roy,
Your poem reminds me of the story of Job. He lost everything, and his friends encouraged him to curse God. But he refused to lose his joy in God. I read the story of Horatio Spofford a few years back in an old hymnal at church. What an amazing story. He didn't hold it against God when he learned of the drowning of his children. Instead, he wrote a wonderful song, telling the world that it was well with his soul. Satan wants to steal our joy. He wants to see us curse God. He wants to see us turn away from our salvation. I wonder how much better our world would be without Satan and his cohorts in it? One day that will happen.
Blessings,
Kimbob

This deserved a six, but unfortunately, I gave all that I had to you my dear friend. :)
I absolutely loved this. So heartfelt with words so meaningful. Tragedies in life happen to us all. Some are tougher than others, but with a strong faith, God will get us through. There have been times where I thought I wouldn't be able to move on, but here I am. God is watching over me, guiding me somehow.
The story of the family you shared is so sad. It just shows you how God can work wonders to get us through the toughest times of our lives.
Thanks for sharing!
Always your fan,
Shana :)

I know I fail at times, but in the end I return to the Lord's arms and know he is there to ease my pain and protect me. I also need to recognize that others have greater pain than I and they too still reach out to the Lord and the safety net he provides.
Hugs, Carol
