This could be my testimony, I was an alcoholic until God called and delivered from several nasty habits, particularly alcoholic, my wife stuck by me all through those terrible years, until that day, both my daughters are God's hand maidens, my wife is the epitome of faithfulness, beautifully written, in open and articulate, smooth glow, and couplet rhyming, well done, blessings, Roy.

Beautifully written, with great lyrics, rhythm and rhyme. It shows the crazy strength of addiction, even when the addict has every reason to quit. Great imagery, i.e. "The gold inside our wedding rings." It is full of emotion that really grabbed my heart. I would love to hear it sung.

You're right to be proud of these lyrics.....they have a classic feel about them, as well as a standard country theme, and a couple of iconic references...'peace in the valley', for example. I've had a good look, but can't find any constructive criticism worth mentioning. Thanks for the song.

Great lyrics. I particularly like 'the gold inside our wedding rings' as a description. You have depicted the tragic strength of addiction in this. Although we know it is a crazy course, we are still compelled towards it.

I have been down this road with my ex husband. Every alcoholic needs a crutch to hang on to. "He ain't heavy, he's my brother." The demon drink is an anaesthetic for the drinker, all the pain and strain falls away, at a terrible price. Very well written my friend.

These are classic country music lyrics about love and alcoholism. This song has everything going for it--a bottle of Jack Daniels and a saloon angel. I can hear the weepy guitars and the drawled country singer. These lyrics show you know the genre well. If you can, get a singer or a musician to pen the music sheet to it so your lyrics could be played and sung. Thank you for sharing.

Well wouldn't it be great if you could sing the lyrics and put the whole thing on Fanstory Brett? It's hard to distance oneself enough and read it as a piece of poetry because it really NEEDS the music to be fully appreciated. The 'alcoholism' aspect is uncomfortable though - one wonders if his wife is a complete fool!

These lyrics are absolutely fabulous. I think it would make a big hit! I almost started to cry when in the song you say " They say there's no such thing as angels, well, my woman's wearing wings." Thank you for sharing this fabulous song!

Well, that certainly does sound like a country song. I can just imagine it being sung by Hank Williams or one of the other old timers. (Don't know if you like that idea, tho). I don't know much about the newer country music singers. Anyway, this is really a sad one. And, so authentically country-western. Well rhymed and good rhythm.

I really enjoyed the lyrics in this poem, very well written. I am a big fan of country music so certainly can relate to what you are saying. Too bad alcohol gets the best of some people, but I guess that is the way it is. Maybe someday your poem will become a country song - hope so. Carol
