Hey Barbara, this is such a very nice story that speaks of several things. When I write, and I don't do it real often to be honest, I like to know what my readers pickup from what I'm laying down. I love the interaction between father and daughter. Dad's affirming his daughter in what she observes concerning the niceness of the dog and yet he holds his ground concerning the acquisition of a dog. I love how Andrew is man enough and wise enough to not only allow Eleanor to have a conversation but willing to let her make her points in the process of constructing her argument for a dog. I also love how wise Eleanor, at her tender age, is and how she incorporated Charlotte into the negotiation. Then Barbara, Grandma comes in and takes up for the lifestyle called: "Its a dogs life".
Don't tell him, but I think Andrew was mistaken this time. I think you were helping. I think you were helping Eleanor and Charlotte. I know, that's what grandmas do. Thanks for sharing the beautiful story.

As an early childhood expert, myself, I was amazed at Eleanor's reasoning skills, at such a young age. But when I think about who her parents are, I'm not really surprised. They're both very intelligent and allow both girls to think and present their opinions, as long as they're respectful.

Oh, isn't that a sweet little story, and all children need a pet, and in my opinion, a dog is the best. But I have to agree they are a responsibility and they all poop. LOL. Plus, in our busy world, so many of them are left alone much of the time, which might be considered a little selfish. LOL. Don't get mad, I'm just picking at you. Thanks for sharing.

Since both parents' work, the dog would be left alone a lot. They do have two cats. LOL Thank you for the understanding.

Who is the granddaughter who wants to be a veterinarian?
I think Eleanor could be a lawyer!
And I'm guessing she and Charolette (what an unusual spelling!) will be getting a dog soon thanks to your help!
Enjoyed your story!

Arianna is my granddaughter who wants to be the veterinarian. She's 20 years old. Andrew is pretty firm against it. LOL I haven't heard a comment from Katie yet. I was amazed at Eleanor's logic for as young as she is. Thank you for the kind review. I need to go back and correct the spelling. Oh dear.

Oh, is it supposed to be Charlotte? That's my oldest granddaughter's name.

I've made the correction. Thank you for pointing it out.

I thought it was a charming little post that illustrates a kid's view of the world. Grown ups have a different view, which comes through in the conversation of your son. Kids think of the cuddly dog, the play time. Grown ups think of cleaning up the dog poop. Somewhere in between, there is life. estory

"We don't remember days I remember moments" so true.

Eleanor sounds like an adorable little girl. All kids like animals but not everyone can get one. My grandson wants a dog but we live in a townhouse... similar to an apartment. We tell him we will get one when we move to a house.
Well done!
