I always wondered how Mother's Day started. I had heard that President Woodrow Wilson had made it a national holiday but other than that I knew little else. Thank you educating me in such a fun way. Great poem. Happy Mother's Day. Gretchen

Timely, well written, and you taught me something. I think you covered all the ways to say mother. The picture added to your words. Together they were awesome. Happy Mother's Day.

Ah Debi. Leave it to you to enlighten us readers on the beginnings of Mother's Day.

Honestly, I never knew these facts other than it being the second Sunday of May.

My moms been gone 21 years now and it still breaks my heart I never got to say good bye to her. That's a story for another time. She continues to have a place in my heart.

Thank you for writing, sharing and being you!

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

John

Hey you, I understand that feeling of not being able to say goodbye. I was there when my mom passed but I had words with my brother, and I never had a chance to make up with him when he was killed. He was only 47. And I had just lost my older brother a few years before at 43 and never said goodbye to him either. Gosh, that is a painful thing, so I can see how you felt with your mom.

So thank you my wonderful friend for such an awesome review and kind words and the gracious six stars. I appreciate it so much. Love, Debi

I like how you write "the day that she would mourn" "then Mother's Day was born". A lovely way to impart the history of this day through your poetry.

I will miss having my children around this year, but I look forward to talking to them on the phone and seeing my son (in Minnesota!) in two weeks!

This is a lovely and well-researched poem, Debi. Thanks for sharing it and the information with us.

Happy Mother's Day!

xoxo
Pam

A lovely poem outlining the beginning of Mother's Day and the reasons for it. Mothers are very special, and it is good to pause and reflect on what they mean to us. Thanks for sharing your poem.

Yes, and boundaries are set for children for their protection too, which is a nice analogy.

It doesn't matter how you spell it, as long as the meaning is there. This was an interesting on about how Mothers Day came about. To me and our family it has never beealdan about how much money you spend, more about the time and the love.
Hope you and your family all enjoyed their day.
Lovely write Debi,
cheers

Thank you for the poetic history of how Mother's Day came to be. And yes, we do that with every holiday - even the sad or reverent ones like Memorial Day or Easter - they all become commercialized.
But I hope you are well celebrated for all the love you give everyday!

Hi Helen, it is too bad that everything has to be about the money, but what would we expect when Christmas is the number one for that. But I admit as a grandma, I enjoy that part. But I enjoy the real reason for the season more.

How interesting. I never gave it a thought as to why or how we have a Mother's Day and I learned something new today. My Mother's Day was a meal at Burger King and a movie but it was awesome. Thanks for sharing.
