I remember how sad I was when my children grew up and left my house. Many of us experience the empty nest chapter of our lives.

I have learned a lot as a poet in our fanstory through reading and reviewing and reviewing of my work.

Well done.

Yes as parents, we will almost always have to face the empty nest. But as I've always said, there's a stage for everything in life. My three granddaughters are still very young so no empty nest is quite ready there yet. I loved your poem, Debi. Ulla xcx

Isn't it funny? I've been musing on these things in recent times, as you probably know I have two daughters, I enjoyed being a dad, I would read to them before bed, and we would pray, I missed them when they left, but they have been dutiful daughters, and now we have five lovely grandchildren, well done, blessings Roy

Debi, I guess if I have to describe this poem and make no mistake, that is exactly what I am doing. I would say it's a fun poem touched with a hint of sadness. Sadness for an empty nest...that somehow doesn't look so empty. In some ways, it looks more full. Such is life. Well done. Terry.

I love it! I didn't know that kind of poetry, it's a funny one! You are so blessed to have this big family and that they don't abandon you like so many of this generation young people do even to their parents...
Thank you for sharing and good luck for the contest.

Like your poem; it seems this happens too often, especially when we have children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren that grow up fast. A very family-oriented poem.

This is such a perfect poem for your children and grandchildren.
Love that you gave us their name and ages...makes the read even better!
Empty nest is not easy but it sounds like you have a loving family nearby.

Hi Debi, your poem is filled with heartfelt memories of family and love.

I especially liked:
Before they leave, a hug and kiss;

(There's no escaping it. They get a hug and kiss before then leave, and when they arrive. That's the Grandma way. Lol, but true.)

I love the photo--perfect choice. D, we are now our parents' generation. We hold the love, the family tales, the secrets to life which our children and grandchildren are still learning. Well done. Xo. M

Hi there my sweet SOTU! Sorry I didn't get back to you but we did go see Kenzie.
Thanks so very much for this lovely review and kindest words for this poem. Also for the gracious gift of six stars. I think it will be a long time before you go thru a grandma's empty nest. And truthfully I couldn't handle little kids anymore, if I were to be honest. Of course you knew that, right? So that is why I am so happy you can do what you do, but I would be shot in a half hour. But doesn't mean I don't miss them.
Thanks again and let me know if you want to try talking tomorrow. thanks again. Love, Debi

Debi...

VeryWellFamily.com lists these suggestions to help us deal with Empty Nest Syndrome:

"Pursuing interests you didn't have time for when your kids were at home.

Taking a class on an interesting topic.

Reconnecting with friends.

Learning a new skill."

While poetry is not "new" to you, you certainly seem to have come back to it in a big way, now that your days aren't full with hands on parenting!

In fact whether or not you've taken a class here, we both know reading, reviewing, and learning from reviews we receive are learning experiences.

You've expanded your circle of friends exponentially!

You have expanded your skill, created forms such as this form...do very well in contests, and were number two poet in 2023!

Just as you look after and care for your adult children and growing grandchildren, so you've done the same here--with birthday poems and prayer requests...

It seems to me you've done everything right!

Your beautiful poem is well written and pulls at my heartstrings... but your writing reminds us you've forged a new bond with your adult children (and their spouses!)--and you are #1 grandma, with loads of love to give and receive!

Thanks for reflecting... You hold the mirror up for many of us.

Time does march on but Moms like you keep pace!

Karenina

Oh, Debi! What a perfect way to express the empty nest. You're right when you say they never forget their origins. My nest has also been empty for some time, and although there are no grandkids yet, our babies always come back to roost on occasion.

Great piece! Best, JohnC
