I could hear these heavy faltering foot steps in the graveyard. It's echoing the grief of losing loved ones. Even the old head stones felt sad for the grieving person.
Well done.

Good one, Beth. These 3 liners are sometimes hard to do. You did well with this one. Reminds me I need to place flowers on the wife's grave. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for review and comment. I don't like writing these short poem but I'm trying to challenge myself to try them. My husband is in the National Cemetery and the kids like to go there on day when the flags or wreaths on the graves. I think there are thousands of graves and they will all get wreaths at Christmas thanks to donations.

Thank you Lea. I'm not fond of writing short poem but I'm to do it anyway. I'm glad you liked it and I'm really pleased with six stars.

Due to my many adventures in the Health System, a short while ago I finally arranged for my wife's headstone, so my faltering footsteps will be among those stones often soon. It's all part of Life that God grants us and there's no other path to take.

Thank you Jim. I'm so sorry the love of you live is there instead of with you. Of course, only her body is there but it where you will go to think about her and remember the good times.

Everything about this, from the "faltering footsteps" to the "aging stones" to the colour choice to the image of an isolated grieving individual alone by a fresh grave, speakes of sadness and loneliness. It is very evocative and impactful. Best of luck for the contest.

Gravesights and headstones, I do not get. You pay as much to leave this world as your parents paid to get you into it. And how often are they visited? Christmas? Easter? My attitude is the deceased has moved on to a life without suffering unless they made really poor choices and did not seek forgiveness.

Don't tell anyone but I feel the same way. However, a lot of people are comforted by visiting their loved ones graves and I'm trying to see things from others point of view. My husband's grave is in the National Cemetery and my children seem to like to go there. It is beautiful. Especially with the flags and Christmas wreaths. I know he isn't there, but if he could was able to know we visit, he would like knowing we care to remember him that way.

Your poem is so true. When a person visits a cemetery, many of the stones are from years ago. You wonder where your relatives are buried and the story behind their past. So you set out to do research or family history and find out the location.

Thank you Rosemary. I visited many cemeterys around where I grew up and after I got into genealogy, I realised I shared DNA with many of the graves there. I wonder what those people were truely like and if they would have liked me.
