I really felt for you in this story. My mother was a teacher, too, and I was accused of getting special treatment (which I did not). I like your reasons why you write. Thank you so much for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Jessi, I thank you so very much for your lovely comments for my "Why I Write" poem and always being so thoughtful. I appreciated your kind words for my mom as well. And I love that your mom too was a teacher. They are a rare breed, aren't they? You are so appreciated, my dear friend.

What a wonderful reason to write; to make your mom proud. Kids can sometime be cruel, and they can do the darndest things. You were innocent, good thing your mom stood up for you. In today's world, you wonder what the world would be like if there were not any writers? Music would perhaps miss their lyric writers. Loved your story.

What a wonderful story about your mom.
She was certainly a great lady and I'm sure she would be proud.
It's hard to imagine a school teacher treating you like that.
Thanks for the great read.

This is a wonderful story, Debbie. Your mum sounds like a wonderful woman and I'm sad she died so young (I'm 58 now).
I often wonder why people have to be so mean and suspicious.
Thanks for sharing this with us.

Hello Heather, my sweet friend. Yes, she did die very young but pancreatic cancer is a rough one, but she reached a lot of people in her lifetime. She is the reason for Oprah's Acts of kindness for women, she taught the hardest cases and turned them into scholars and had 7 kids before she was 25. However my dad had three small girls, 3,4 & 5 years old, after his first wife died when they were 1, 2, and 3. So we figured she was a Wonder Woman already back then. So I thank you my awesome friend for such kind words for my story, my mom and for such a wonderful review, kind words and generous six stars. You and they are so appreciated my sweet friend!

I loved it. well done. well written.
The sixth star is for your mom, God rest her soul.
You are absolutely right. I've often said the same thing. Being falsely accused is about the worst.
Best wishes.

You are so kind Wayne, I thank you and I know my mother does too. After all that extra star for her just might be one of those she swings on at night to watch over me. Lol, remember that song, Swinging on a Star? I just aged my sixty something self. However, I did that when I wrote about country schools, but that was a wonderful era. Thanks so much Wayne for your kind words, your bonus swingin' star and for being a friend.

I can imagine how hurtful that was, especially for a young child. Your mother's actions that day not only benefited you, but I'm sure it made the teacher and perhaps even some of the students think twice about assuming that someone cheated.

Your contest entry was awesome though poignant, Debi.
Your mother is still so proud of you for sharing your writing
in any way and with everyone. You handled the prompt very
well. I could see you working on your poem secretly expecting
great things, , , then, that teacher bullied you and allowed others
to jump on the bandwagon. Sure, an apology from all of them was
given the next day. However, none of them could take back their
words and actions which have followed you to this day. But, your
mother knew your heart and proudly stood up for you, Bravo! Even
today, she does the same from Heaven. You incorporated your story
well to tell why you write, how it makes you feel, and how important
is to you and always has been. Your granddaughter's art was a perfect
choice for this entry.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan

Thanks so much Jan! I really appreciate the very sweet review and words.
Appreciate you more than you could ever know, my awesome friend. Yes, I believe that my mom does know that I followed that dream, and now she is so thankful that her daughter is happy with some of the best friends in. World, literally. Thank you dear one, for those sweet Texan stars you sent my way. You are a gem!!

Well, I am so thankful that you do!! This was just gut wrenching, Debi. I felt heartbreak, heart warmth and everything in between. I was brought to tears reading your mothers reaction. It's so similar to what I recently went through with Morgan. Another gem!

Debi, this is a terrific story for this contest. Your writing is like telling this story while having an iced tea, (or an adult beverage, in my case) and talking to a friend. To say it flows well is an understatement. Thank you for entering this contest. Exceptional writing. This contest is going to be a very hard vote for me. There are a lot of exceptional entries. Additionally, there is no question you belong on the prose side and the poetry side. Terry.

Terry, I thank you so very much for your kind comments for my "Why I Write" story and for your very thoughtful review. Your kind words are always so appreciated. You do realize if I am going to continue writing prose, you are going to have to put up with a lot of me rambling about anything and everything that comes to mind, after something you say reminds me of a story. Wow, that is one heavy load! hehehe! A lot to ask from a friend, but remember when I said I could never figure out why my dad thought it helpful when he said that at least if they were talking about me, they weren't talking about others? Well lets put it this way, if I am talking to you, I am saving some other poor soul the misery. Lol, actually I will try real hard not to do that to you.
And thank you also for generous gift of six stars!

The support of a loving parent is to me, second in importance to a parent giving you life. I can think of nothing as life affirming as a parent standing up for their child before any and all opposition. You were gifted with what must have been one of the greatest moms in all the inhabited world. My mother was like that as well. I snapped as a result of unrelenting bullying from a particular student. After beating him unconscious my mom was ordered to come to the school. her first question was what was done to stop the bullying. The teacher had no answer, so my mom said, you allowed this bully to abuse my son until he had no choice but to take matters into his own hands and now you want to blame my son. he did just what I would have done. I refuse to punish him and you damn well better not try.

OOOOOHHH, Way to go other mother!!!!!! Oh how I wish I would have known her. She was remarkable and so is her son. I guess we both were blessed with two great moms, and just think about what might have come of your life without this wonderful woman. You may have made it on your own, but I am so thankful that you didn't have to find out. You were taught values and morals, about fair and injustice, and more than anything I have ever known, probably because of your race. I have been an advocate for years for equal and fair treatment for all. What the heck do people think God meant in the Bible when He said, love your neighbor as yourself. I don't recall there being a color noted in that statement. Sorry, I am just assuming and we both know what that means, for me, not you. Lol!! You really perked me up with this review, and I am still smiling big about your mom's reaction and speech to the teacher! Thanks for the best one today my dear friend. For the lovely review, the kindest of comments, those bright shiny stars, and kind words for my mom and the great story about your mom's love for you. I understand it all too well, as you are easy to love, dear bro!!

Oh I tasted my mom's wrath as well. I gave her lot's of reason. I was a hand full. But she always supported me when I was right, and punished me when I was wrong.
