Rachelle,
How deliciously you have penned this poem of the stark reality of the unlimited, and unchecked, aspirations of Earth Mother's children. No one knows better than I the tenacity of deep roots and how hard it is to rid the garden of weeds. Well done! Good luck in the contest.

Hah! Mis-named I should say. More like Cockleburr and Stinkweed.
Nice poem. Nice shot. I expect, though, they won't see it unless it's pointed out to them.
Best wishes.

Yes, I feel warmer just thinking about the hardy flowers that will survive this crazy winter weather to bloom again in the spring. Nice photo, and good rhymes. Best wishes in the contest, and wishes for some warmer weather coming.

Brilliant, Rachelle, truly brilliant--in so many ways...
You capture the essence of nature's epic battle for survival; of doing whatever it takes to emerge victorious in the fight for the preservation and continuation of the species.
Thank you for writing and sharing your work with us. Best of luck in the contest. Keep on bulldozing!

This is such a wonderful poem. Your descriptions are incredible and I loved the structure of your poem. The imagery in the second stanza is something that really stood out to me. I thought it was beautiful.

Great comment on Nature, and how She produces the beautiful
flowers we enjoy in the spring and summer. Some are amazing in their tenacity to survive.
Here in Wyoming, we are in Zone 4b, hard winters with temps down to 30 below. We tend to plant Zone 3 & 4 perennials, and some of them do not survive.
Like you, we are surrounded by, and subject to, cold and storms, but we are ordering our seeds and plants for spring.
Good work,
irish

Yes, Heather and violet seem accustomed to weathering cold!
Thanks for the terrific review!

I would just love to wonder through a field of violets and heather and lie down in a purple haze! I'm sure I would sneeze but that is by the by! Lovely alliteration and rhyme and a poem that expresses the fragility and strength of nature.

I think I was going to write something along those lines, the wonderful thing about writing is that there is no boundary one can't breach, no place one can't go, no limits to the perspective, (apart from the grumpy reviewer) beautifully written Rachelle, good luck, blessings Roy

I love lavender, although I live in Florida where it really doesn't grow. The ryhming scheme is great. The diction creates imagery that I can see. Hope your winter isn't too long. Nice job.
