Ah, Sal, another beautiful post about truly heartfelt love -- this time from a father who walked out on his wife and young daughter long ago, and finally sees the need to make amends before his life fades away.
I understand why you chose to write this one (of four) first. Knowing the real history behind it misted my eyes from that point on. The power of forgiveness is evident in the sad but lovely ending.
This world certainly needs more sincere and openly expressed love. You clearly are doing your part to remind us all, and your own life with Jackson is proof of what true, unconditional love can do.

I enjoy sharing love letter themed stories as I have been blessed in that way. I have books and boxes of them, mostly from Jackson, my sons, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. It's hard to keep a dry eye when reading your work! You have the sweetest way of expressing emotion and pulling a reader into your story with just the first line! I experienced such a confession from my own father, but on a more silent level. The last time I saw him before he committed suicide, he took me out to bar (I was visiting my grandmother and he lived there at this time), and we enjoyed a great evening. In the morning when I woke, he was sitting at the end of the bed in a rocker with tears on his face. I knew he'd been sitting there watching me sleep and regretting the last 29 years of barely being in my life. I hugged him and left to go back home to my own family, and two weeks later he was gone. No words needed to pass between us for me to know he loved me:). Thank you for sharing this beautiful story and of course, I can't wait to read what comes next! xoxo

This is so beautiful Sally, and so beautifully written, it touched me deeply, Elaine and I are spending time with our beautiful elder daughter and our grands and son in law, they have been so loving and good to us, my heart is overwhelmed. When Rebecca was first married, I wanted to help them, but Nick was so independent, for a short time, we fell out, it ripped me apart, I had broken a relationship with a close friend, which didn't help, we were quickly reconciled, God dealt with my anger and rejection, my daughter is as beautiful as my wife, so this reminded me of those days, my writing has been inspired by God's unsearchable love, as you've probably guessed Sally, congratulations, this moved me deeply.
