Hi Dean,
This is a wonderful write. The music enhanced the piece, and accounted for the nice, creepy feel...I had to listen to it twice. Well done! I appreciate the stellar rhymes and immaculate cadence. Your piece makes a believer out of me...to Poe! Cheers!

Edgar Allen Poe is one of my favorites,his'Raven'being such a haunting work.This poem seems to take off from where "raven" ended. Instead of torturing him with 'nevermores' at least this raven has guided the persona towards a certain aim. Annabel Lee is another one of Poe's impeccable poems. mono rhyme must have been a real challenge .Sorry you had to miss the deadline .but you could have kept it since most of the contests are repeated.Anyway you have my six .

Thanks, Sanku, I really appreciate the exceptional rating and your thoughtful comments. I did think of just keeping it on the shelf for use later on, but I felt that this contest rarely comes up, so I went ahead and posted it anyhow. I guess if it does come up again in the future, I'll just have to come up with something else.
Thanks so much again, Sanku. :}

Thanks, Kausar, I really appreciate it.
I hope everything goes, or is going, well for you at your new school.
All the best, my friend, and no sixes are ever necessary. :)

this is an excellent write, dean, you did an excellent job crafting this monorhyme poem. I am sorry you missed the deadline. hope everything went well at the cardiologist. did they find some black spots where the horror poetry has taken root? lol.

Hah ha, thanks, sweet, I appreciate that.
Nope, but they did find a problem with the settings of my defibrillator, and they made the necessary adjustments.
Thanks for gthe great review, my friend. :)

First, I hope your appointment with cardiologist went okay.
This is another classic! The ending...LOL! Sheer genius! Very subtle, imaginative, with great word-smithing! "A ghastly fellow - his shadowy specter gaunt." Damn good, but I look far worse, especially mornings...:)
Must I say KEEP WRITING???

Thanks, Mike, I appreciate the thoughtful review, my friend. I'm glad you enjoyed the poem. :)

Sure thing, Dean!! By the way, I just put out a rather bawdy poem about a writer frustrating his muse. Imo, it's not bad...
Peace,
Mike

I'll take a look-see at it for you, Mike.

Thanks again, Dean!

What a fun and dark poem. I enjoyed every line. The music helps create the mood, but is not needed as your work is very well written and stands on its own merit. Have you ever gone to Baltimore? Poe use to hang out at several pubs, one in particular. He is also buried there. But I'll get back to this review. It is written well and with a familiar Poe style as in his famous "Tell Tale Heart." This was a delight to read and then to read again. Well done! I like the art work that accompanies your poem.

First of all I hope your heart is doing well. Your writings always give me the chills and the thrills. I love this poem "a la Poe". It does read like The Raven...your muse does remind me of ole Edgar himself.

Aw-, thanks so much for the well wishes, JM, and I guess I'm going to be around a while longer, much to the chagrin of some around here. I'm just doing it to piss them off, LOL...
I really appreciate your kind words and thoughtful review, my friend.:}

OMG. This is brilliant. I can only imagine how long it must have taken to write unless you channeled the master himself. A great take on The Raven especially with all the alliteration. It's one of my favorites. Love the title too.

Oh, thanks a bunch, Spit! I can't tell you ho much getting exceptional ratings like the one you've given me here means to me, especially when it is from a writer whose work I really admire, like I do yours.
I had the thing all written and ready to enter, then left off for my doctor's appointment and forgot to take it out of the preview mode. I have days like that sometimes, LOL...
Thanks so much again. I'm very grateful. :}

Personally, I find this mono-rhyme so difficult to do because of my limited vocabulary. But if it is Dean Kuch, whether or not possessed by Edgar Allan Poe - it is as easy as scribbling a pen. It should've won the contest, what happened to you? I hope the test is not that serious? take care... c", mae

Just a routine check up, Mae. I have an internal defibrillator implanted, and they monitor the signal from the hospital 24/7 because my heart is very weak. They stopped receiving the signal, and became worried, so they had me come in for a check up, and to make some adjustments.
Everything's good now, and thanks for the concern, and the review. I appreciate them both very much. :)

Hmmm I don't understand... I thought people who loves horror got a very strong heart? *smile*
It's a relief that you are good as new again... Take a lot of care... The world still needs you! God be with you always! c", Mae
