You had me going there, Mikey! I thought our "hero" was after a Walmart Christmas special. Turns out it was sperm. Very tricky, clever, and unique. I never would've put you and Flash Fiction together. Very well done. I hope you do well in the contest!

Mikey, this is not meant to be a critism, only an observation. Your writing style is not designed for Flash.
Flash is supposed to be represented by austerity and verbal economy. That is just not your style. You like to iterate and reiterate. You like to say something a few different ways. Like you're looking at the same thing from different angles. Again, just an observation.
And not to worry, most people on this site seem to define Flash by nothing more than overall word count. Flash is supposed to be much more about about a terse writing style than numbers. But since this is FS, I don't think any of that will effect the judging.
Best of luck.
Peace, Lee

Oh my!!! This was an astonishing piece. A complete surprise and that made the ending soooo powerful!!! I read along with great interest. I wasn't sure where it was going, but it was totally engaging. Then you slay with that ending. Bravo. This should get serious consideration! NG

OH, that was brilliant! Have no 6 left, the twist at the end it magnificent! I thought I was reading a science fiction story, but it is a true story of how life begins. Simply amazing! xsx Sandra.

Fury... I can see it! And the most important point you make is the notion that human nature is dictated by the drive and will imposed on it by its victorious forerunner! I used to read a book that was very much like this story -- except without all the "Die Bastards!" parts -- to Matthew when I was pregnant with Cam. The little girl who was born after "Swimmy" (or whatever HER name was) won the race, was super good at swimming! Interestingly, I knew what your story was going to be about right from the get-go when I saw the accompanying picture, probably because it immediately reminded me of the book... Anyway, this is an awesome approach to the prompt! Good luck in the contest! This should be a contender! Yours, Steph

Tell me you are not talking about a galloping gamete and I will renege on the five stars. Old Ma nature-if she wants a rat, she plants a thousand and massacres all but the one strongest...

This is verrrrrrrry clever and a sure winner if the committee can read. I'm not sure of that from what has won in the past. LOL! I hope I see you in the winners' circle. You go, Mikey. Pass up those other lazy sperm and finish first. (Just be sure not to fall asleep and neglect your wife. Hehe.)

Mikey, I'm glad this is not listed as biographical, LOL. It encapsulates the mind of one who is bent on winning no matter what. In the end it is a lonely place. All the best in the contest! :0 GracieAnn
