We are never too old to feel young at heart. This is very well written and in a way, could be considered, a modern Aesop fable. Good luck in your contest.

So that's what happened to Puff and Jackie! This was great, so heart warming. It made me remember watching the movie with my sisters when we were kids. Nice job. Jordan

Yes, my grandchildren enjoy Puff too. So I needed him to make one last visit and then pass him on to the next child. Smiles, Carol

Nice fantasy, but the rest of the song speaks about the loss of innocence:
"A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, puff could not be brave,
So puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. oh!"

Oh, i just love that song. My husband introduced it to me in our courting days. It has a special place in our hearts. Our story is great...there is magic at any age, in any place.

I am thrilled that you enjoyed the story. It was my first attempt at fantasy. My grandchildren love Puff so I thought it worked. Thanks for the kind review. Carol

Hello Carol! I enjoyed this story and the way you mixed the different songs and stories into one. The fantasy caterpillar/dragon is a good one. I used to play Puff for my daughter--she didn't know the words but would shout at the top of her lungs "Puff, the magic dragon!!" Best wishes in the contest.

What a lovely fantasy story and very good flash fiction. You capture a moment in time very well. I love the fantasy references (caterpillar to Alice in Wonderland ) and to music popular in the sixties (I wonder if many readers will catch the reference to Joni Mitchell in The crocuses were in bloom .) You show the importance of fantasy for both children and adults quite well.

I loved it. I am going to share this with my first graders, if it's all right?
Good luck with the contest.
Wow, that's going to be a climb. But climb I must! (Not sure about this one, but I am going back to my HS English teacher, don't start a sentence with but. to be a climg, but climb I must.)

Barbara,
I figured since it was a thought not an actual sentence it would be okay...otherwise I should connect the two sentences. Not sure about that, but I figured a caterpillar could talk that way...not that I have talked to many caterpillars. LOL
Thanks for the review...Hope the children enjoy the story. Carol

I honestly am not sure. Don't do anything with it until somebody else does something.

BeginAgain,
Your fantasy flash fiction story, "Just believe!" is very magical for sure! I don't know how exactly you came up with the idea, but I enjoyed reading it.
Thanks for reminding me of this song. I used to love singing it when I was young.
"Jack closed his eyes. He thought of a time when a magic dragon lived by the sea and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee."
You did a fantastic job on this. I guess I just have to believe, right?

Begin again,
Thanks for the ride on the magic carpet. It was a fun trip. I always liked that song, but I found out later that someone was smoking something funny. I sill like the song. Good entry.

I like to think of just the cartoon version. My grandchildren loved the show and all the magic. Thanks for the review. Carol

This story is lovely. It is so uplifting, a tale that gives value to make believe. At this time of year with Christmas approaching your story enforces my view that children should be allowed to believe in Father Christmas and not have this belief shattered by well meaning adults who feel they shouldn't lie to their children. Great stuff.
