You make an excellent point, Terry. Freedom of religion is also freedom from religion and so on as the constitution says we have the right to choose our religion and nobody can stop us from not choosing one as well. I like that you don't choose your preference of religion; it goes to the point of this rant and that is that too many folks think their religion is the only one in existence.
Now, I feel better!

Jesse, thank you for the review, well said.

Thanks, Terry. That means a lot coming from you. I am glad we are on the same page with this rant.
Comment from Debbie D'Arcy
This is a great rant, Terry, and you convey your point perfectly that people shouldn't have the government telling them what they should or should not believe. Religion is a totally personal affair of the individual. Jimmy Carter understood this and, although a devout Christian himself, he refused to have prayer breakfasts in the White House or let his own religious views shape public policy. A shame that his example wasn't followed thereafter. Good luck in the contest! Take care Debbie

Thank you Debbie for your review.
Comment from Wayne Fowler
The six stars are earned and deserved. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go polish my plastic Jesus or it won't work warding off book readers.
...and already sixty-five percent of FanStory readers are preparing a rebuttal and figuring out which scriptures to quote. - I found this point comically entertaining. Count me in the 35%.
...organized to counteract the content of this rant. - laughy face here (wonder why they left me out)

Wayne, thank you for the six stars and more importantly for 'getting' what I was trying to get at. Terry.

The trouble with the country and its people as I see it, too few, far too few know or have learned to mind their own darn business. Who you love, who you worship, heck who you voted for or plan to vote for, is no body's business but your own. If the government ever takes over religion, if we support the wrong religion, they might come and seize us. Take my advice and always swear that you dearly love our guy Jesus.

No, I didn't react to your initial words really, I have lived on both sides of the fence, (forty years in each) so I don't condemn or reprimand anyone who doubts, indeed, I understand both lines of thinking, but I don't like It when somebody that presumes another is insane, I guess that's why a lot of opinions are not based on truth, but bias and or, very uninformed thinking, To some it's a threat, so therefore scary, a lot of people don't like the idea that there is a divine being keeping accounts, the trouble is they don't know...unfortunately, or fortunately I do. Heh heh. Shouldn't you enquire? Eternity is a long time. Blessings Roy

Well, I think you ranted well without even telling us your side of the rant. But you know where I stand politically. It's ironic that the very people who want to put the US Constitution in their Bibles are ignoring the freedom of religion part and wanting to strong-arm people in how to behave according to Christian beliefs. Jesus told us to Love God and Love Your Neighbor. That's person to person. But when you start trying to removed books from the library - beware because the Bible talks freely about all kinds of sins and shows us that even the Biblical heroes were sinful and needed to repent and receive God's forgiveness. Then with blanket banning of books, the right-wing legislators would end up banning the Bible! So there, I replied with my rant. Lol. Best wishes in the contest!

Helen, I did a couple of things on purpose. The rant was about true believers doing exactly what you described, by using government for their agenda. I think I was clear what I thought about that.
What I didn't tell you is whether I choose religion or not.
-
Terry, I think deep in your heart, you believe, even if you aren't overt about it. 💖

Ah, Mr. Broxson,
We don't have horny toads in Michigan - at least not the four-legged kind, to my knowledge - although I have met the two-legged kind on a few occasions... but that is fodder for another "rant."
I was raised Catholic.
Wanted to be a nun for years. But I realized I would look terrible in a nun's habit - especially the bandeau/veil.
Now, I frequently never do anything anyone "tells me to do," so the government telling me how to practice my faith would fall on deaf ears.
Live your life as you see fit.
Practice your beliefs as you see fit.
But watch out for those two-footed horny toads... Nasty buggers.
fondly,
Big Dog

The wonderful part about God is, he allows us the freedom to either worship him or not to worship him. The choice is ours. We are not puppets on a string which he is pulling. He is watching us and he will help us if we ask him. I did not get offended at all at your rent. I thought it was very clearly done and I appreciate Your thoughts. May you have a wonderful day and I might say may God bless you. Patricia.

I sense a little humor in this and not just the West Texas toad. I am a believer, but I would never push my agenda on anyone. If you come to Jesus, it's on your time line, not mine. I'm sure your sweet soul will recieve lots of prayers. Fun rant. Gretchen
