I loved the Munsters, Harry, and watched them religiously as a kid. I enjoyed this well-crafted piece and the information shared I didn't know. They first aired a week before I was born, Oct 1, 1964. I didn't realize they had such a short stint, as it seemed like an endless series when I was watching.
God bless,
Steve

Okay, I have to tell you that I really REALLY like this post! It's put together in an organized but chatty-and-interesting style and provided memories I enjoyed revisiting (because it was also MY favorite TV show!) as well as what-happened-to-them-since-the-show-ended facts.

I was pooh-poohed by my family when I said that I thought it was a different Marilyn. (They looked a LOT alike, right?) So it was validating to realize that even though I was little, I was correct!

Cool vignette about you and Eddit at the car show. Something to treasure forever, for sure!

Well, thank you so much for the kind review. I do have a chatty style. And it does provide memories for me as well. There was nothing like running home from school and fighting my three sisters to see whether we got to watch the Munsters or the Brady Bunch...

    Hahaha. That's actually funny.

That statement referencing how you look resonates with me. I know for a fact that many of the people watching that episode would not nearly as much of a problem living in a neighborhood with a family like the Munsters as they would of having a black family living in the neighborhood. Such was the state of race relations in America at that time.
Thanks for the sentimental reminder of one of my all time favorite shows.

That is so neat you got an autograph of Butch Patrick. I too loved the re-runs of the Munsters. I also liked Leave it to Beaver and Car 54 Where are you. I am impressed of your knowledge of this sitcom. It was nice that you followed through and knew of the deaths of these wonderful actors. It is a shame that it lost its views and was canceled. I enjoyed this non fiction very much.

Thank you for sharing about one of my own personal favorites, the Munsters. It was definitely from a turbulent time in our country, offering innocence as well as forwarding some new wisdom, like the father's speech.

I'm glad it's one of those shows that's managed to endure the test of time.

Take care,
Rhonda

I enjoyed your post. Never a real Munsters fan, but the satire on the show was top notch. My wife and I were watching Fox News the other night (not a comedy!). One of the correspondents, David Spunt (sp?), is Eddie reincarnated. Bill

Very nice image and story to go with it. You do a good job with the background of the show and the characters. I used to like this show, too. I think a number of sitcoms in that era, as well as comedy shows like the Smother's brothers were able to make humorous digs at society. You did a good job with the talk that Grandpa had with Eddie.

A lot of them didn't have a good ending to their life. It is very sad to think that they had so many health problems, multiple operations, and didn't live long. What a shame about Yvonne DeCarlo not even having any money for her care. A least a few are still alive.

You end with an amazing story about meeting Butch Patrick. Thanks for sharing everything.

Thank you so much Pam for the great review, kind words and yes, it was a shame about Yvonne De Carlo. I always liked her in the movies too.

Your article was not only informative it brought back sweet memories from my own childhood. I found it interesting how many of the cast members died unfortunate deaths. Meeting Butch Patrick at the car show brought the article full circle. It was a fun read. Gayla

I really enjoyed your story! It's a wonderful blend of nostalgia, personal experience, and deep admiration for The Munsters, a show that has left an indelible mark on pop culture. Your vivid recollections of watching the reruns as a child take us back to the golden days of television, where shows like The Munsters brought families together with their campy humor, quirky characters, and playful supernatural themes.

What stands out in your story is not just the fun, slapstick comedy of the show, but the deeper cultural impact it had, especially its subtle social commentary. You've done an excellent job highlighting how The Munsters satirized the typical sitcom family dynamic of the 1960s while also tackling issues of acceptance, love, and identity-particularly through the iconic lines from Herman about what truly matters: the size of your heart and the strength of your character.

I also loved how you brought in personal memories, especially your encounter with Butch Patrick at the car show. It's moments like that, when the stars of our favorite shows become real people with warm, genuine hearts, that make the nostalgia even more meaningful. Your story brought that connection to life, and it's clear that Butch Patrick's humility and kindness left a lasting impression on you.

Through your detailed account, you've captured the essence of The Munsters-how it evolved from a cult classic to a beloved part of television history. You also gave readers a wonderful glimpse of the talented cast, whose personal stories add another layer of richness to the show's legacy. It's fascinating to learn about the lives of the actors who brought these timeless characters to life, each with their own unique journey.

I liked it, but I was an "Adams Family" gal. I loved Morticia cutting the heads off the roses. Uncle Fester who could light up light bulbs in his mouth. Lurch, with that voice! And their song:

They're creepy and they're kooky
Mysterious and spooky
They're all together ooky
The Addams family

Their house is a museum
When people come to see 'em
They really are a scream'em
The Addams family

Neat
Sweet
Petite

So, put a witch's shawl on
A broomstick you can crawl on
We're gonna play a call on
The Addams family

They're creepy and they're kooky
Mysterious and spooky
They're all together ooky
The Addams family

Strange
Deranged
The Addams family Karen
