I love the poem, Terry! You're a natural! And I'm also very amused by your prose. It shouldn't be one or the other. I actually join you in the grievance and frustration of sometimes not understanding verse. We're in the game here of communication. I don't get why we wouldn't want to make ourselves understood. Poetry shouldn't be like a cryptic puzzle and, if it is, it's probably the fault of the writer, not you (If you haven't already, do try and read Patrick Bernardy's amazing essay on communication. Finally, I've no problem in this regard with your verse but I would love to see a visual of a little elf as well because I'm just plain greedy! Thank you, Terry, for sharing your delightful piece which I enjoyed. Look forward to seeing you here on the dark side:)) Take care Debbie

Debbie, thank you. I can not imagine the amount of research it takes and the creative approach you use to write your Celebrity Poems. I think you may have created a new class of poetry. I'm just an old man remembering his childhood in the front yard after a good rain, making mud pies. Thanks for reading. Terry.

The trouble is, it's all become a bit like hard work. Yesterday, I did a short verse and couldn't believe what fun it was and how quickly it was done. But keep up the poetry, Terry. It's a whole lot easier than prose because you can take liberties with your grammar and creativity:))

Oh no...Terry, say it ain't so!!!!

You turncoat!!

But still, you're right. I've noticed that the number of reviewers have dropped off dramatically from when I was first on here.

I, also, don't understand a lot of what the poets are saying. If they are straight forward, I get it, too much symbolism and I have to guess. I get real excited when I'm right. Point behind that, please for old times sake, and the prose writers who know and love you, keep it understandable!!

Oh, and there's a form of poetry for what you just did. I don't remember what it's called, but it's a combination of prose and poetry.

Great job, my friend,
Rhonda

Hi Rhonda, the form of poetry I wrote for this story is called "Texas Mesquite Bush Poetry." If you ever cut a surveyor's line of sight through the mesquite in the Texas oil fields, which I have, then you know, be careful, it might stick you! Thanks for reading. Terry.

Hahaha, I know all about those Mesquite trees. We are constantly battling them in the pasture!!

I look forward to navigating the thorns in your poems.

You tell it like it is, friend. I have wrestled with the platform idea of Fanstory for decades. It is what it is, I guess. But I feel to get maybe a couple of dozen people to read your stuff is better than nothing. And maybe it is cost effective juxtaposed against the self publishing world. But let's be honest; there aren't many members here who are well versed in literature or the craft of writing. It is much more of a social media club. estory

You make a good point. But it's okay if people get different things from the site. Thanks for reading. Terry.

Thank you for sharing, Terry. I'm writing in three categories still, but more poetry these days as it's less demanding on my eyesight. Either way, I enjoy it all because I love to write. Good to see you.
Blessings.

You make a valid point in this about writing pros as opposed to poetry I enjoy dabbling in pros, but I do not write much of it. I do write quite a bit of poetry and I try to use a variety of formats for my poetry writing. I agreed and comment on a lot of pros from people as well. Patricia.

Hi Terry, This piece is listed under humor fiction, so I wonder if you really feel this way. You like to pull our legs occasionally, so this one puzzles me about your motives for writing it. I agree there is more poetry than prose here on FS but elsewhere there are more fiction and non-fiction books that get read than poetry books these days.
Glad you didn't mention names, that gets all of them in a truffle over who is best and better than the other.
This was excellent entertainment which is what you are known for in this writing site.
I will continue to write whatever I choose to write whether it be prose or poetry.
Enjoy the weekend.

Hi, Jesse. I was trying to have a little fun. But it is true and a bit sad that there are few prose writers at the moment. Thanks for reading. Terry.

    Good morning, Terry.
I agree it is sad that there aren't more prose writers on this site.

I do believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that you will be terrific at whatever you decide to achieve - be it prose or poetry. I like your elf on the shelf. And yes, very few followers choose the novel over the poem. Have a great day!

Is that because I'm in the ancient category? I love to write and see a story unfold in my imagination.

This has always been a site for poets, they just allow us prose writers to hang around since we're willing to pay the yearly membership. I have found a few very good prose writers in the junk heap that is "not highly promoted". I feel bad for these people, but explain to them that they have to review more in order to be read more. That's how the game is played.

Why do we all review? For the adulation. But that's a different essay for a different day.

It's nice to see you, Terry. And nice try at poetry; you're about as good as me in that department:-)

I think prose is your forté and it would be good to see you back - and you'd probably fly up the prose ranks. What you say is true - there are a lot fewer reviews of prose even if it pays well. People want a quick read of a poem, quick money and onto the next poem - they don't really care if they don't understand it, which is sad. However, many times ... I review poems, don't understand, ask for clarification, but get no answer, just a copy and paste acknowledgement - which I feel is a bit insulting. I then feel they don't care, just want plenty of reviews. Hmm. I'd better stop here! A thoughtful post, with some good points.

You Are...
Or,
Who are we?

There is no question
left to be!

"No man is an island"
Said Donne to the Elf...

Write words as you feel them,
get off of that shelf!

Terry, inspired, has gathered his friends...
who promptly appeared, with a fistful of pens...

Then came to fruition?
Anthology/lore!
(and trust intuition-
maybe two or three more!)

Lee "pitches" Red Sox,
D's a "Tiger" for that...

Let's hope that "BESTSELLER"
is your "team's" favorite STAT!

*** THIS is the part where you cleverly insert in your reply, the
name of your book, where it can be purchased...and toss in the names of the rest of the authors, cuz
that's good marketing!

Some
who write poems
would love to
write prose line by line

There are a few special authors who
"switch-hit" just fine!

Holy Holly - Sir B...
Diane's in that line!

(I've no way to end this
With metrical flair...
Or even "two-cents"
So I'm outta here!)
