Such a gorgeous poem and post! Thank you for sharing Diane. I loved that the narrator wanders through nature and is blessed with a sense of release and peace and gratitude. That is certainly a very different type of "holly" and yes, jays always scold and squawk! We don't see those flickers here. We have sandpipers that skitter across our sidewalks.

Hello, Helen!
Oh my goodness!
I am honored and humbled that my offering resonated so positively with you!
Thank you for your exceptional rating and thoughtful review.
I look forward to the blooming of the winterberry every year. And just recently, I discovered that there is a golden winterberry! A rather huge bush is growing and blooming on the road to our daughter's home. I would so love to just pick a small gathering, but I dare not as I am certain it is on private property. Will have to content myself with the red winterberry that blooms in abundance around our home...
Thank you again, Helen!
Hoping you are enjoying "sweet release on pathways wide" as well!
Much appreciation,
fondly,
diane

You're so welcome! I think you sent me a dried branch of it and it decorated my home that winter. 💖

Hello, Helen!
I sent you bittersweet that year = more orange/rust
Winterberry = I love the red for Christmas! :)

I liked reading this poem. It brought back memories of my grandma setting out pretty "Ideals" poetry magazines from decades past.
I was particularly intrigued with these lines:
And find a way to calm my fears
That echoed wide; that hovered near
It seems to subtly personify fears as able to make an echo and hover at the same time.

Thank you, Crystie for your thoughtful review.
I, too, remember those "Ideals" magazines! My mother loved them!
And I share your perspective about fears for they do, indeed, often echo and hover at the same time...
Much appreciation!

A well illustrated poem with six colourful pictures. It's nice to see such a diversity of animal life. I showed this poem to my eight year old grandson and had to look up what a chipmunk was. We don't have them in Jersey C.I. or on mainland Britain.
Nicely written, well balanced with unforced rhyme. Good work. Mel

Hello, Mel!
Jersey... Channel Islands? Yes?
Our son-in-law hails from Tilston, outside of Chester, Britain
, and while I don't know if there are chipmunks there, I do know that there are no deer, and deer abound in northern Michigan!
So pleased you enjoyed my offering!
Thank you!

This is a lovely poem of thoughts during your walk amid nature. Your imagery is outstanding, as is your use of alliteration. I enjoyed taking the walk with you.

I love love love this beautiful poem! In a similar place in the in western North Carolina woods I also found peace. I loved walking into the woods on a wide trail alone where God could speak to me...where He had my attention. Now I'm too old to walk alone and alas our beautiful places in the west of our state are muddy and many trails are now closed along with the roads to get there due to the hurricanes.
You are blessed to be and do and write...and you have blessed me along the way.

I wish that I had two six star ratings to award this beautiful poem. It may be my favorite of your poetry. I was struck by the lines
I felt a calm come over me
Not all at once, but by degree:
Those words give legitimacy to the impact of nature. On occasion, the impact may be instant, but usually the calmness happens by degree. The change that we feel happens slowly. It may take a weekend campout, but we come away refreshed.
My favorite line though is
To sort my thoughts on pathways wide
It's the pathways wide part that gets me.
So well done.

Hello, dear Debbie!
So very good to hear from you!
I am honored by your exceptional rating and thoughtful review.
I would have responded earlier, but Bowdie, Jude, and I were out and about in the woods today exploring and soaking up the last of these glorious days of autumn in northern Michigan.
I labored over this poem for many days as I sought just the right words to convey my emotions. I even tweaked it after I posted it yesterday!
So very please the totality of it resonated with you!
Thank you ever so much!
fondly,
diane

A vicarious ride through Nature. It is vivid and addictive, allowing an embrace of Nature's treasures.
No diet, no exercise, and no wealth can compete with the visual and subliminal treasure of Nature.
This a book, and audio visual creation, to feed the minds and emotions of all persons of all ages.
No pharmaceutical additions are necessary or allowed.
This is a story that amazes those who do not embrace nature, and a reminder to all who praise nature that it is God's gift.
This is 100% well done. The message was clear, the words chosen were clear and descriptive.

What a wonderful way to start a Monday and the week. I could feel the warmth and enjoyment of your surroundings in your words. Beautiful imagery. I hope Michigan has been free of fire this year as we here in Idaho have not. Thank you for your beautiful thoughts and have a great week. Must be getting cool up there. Be well, Frank

No fires in Michigan this autumn; it has been glorious but we do need rain. And even in the rain, those "pathways wide" call to me.

Beautiful poem with such lovely pictures added to enhance the presentation. I enjoyed the You Tube videos as well. It looks and sounds like a gorgeous state to live in. I was born in Wisconsin and assume it is very similar although I've never been there. Thanks for sharing.

Hello, Marilyn,
So pleased you stopped by and enjoyed your visit.
I don't usually attach videos to my work, but I thought some folks may never have heard of Winterberry or the Northern Flicker.
Autumn in northern Michigan has been glorious this year, and those "pathways wide" call to me daily.
Much appreciation!
