I like that this poem was not only entertaining, but educational, as well. I had no idea where Mother's Day had come from, and it was quite interesting to learn about it. Happy Mother's Day! By the way, Madre is another word for Mom.

That's an interesting historical perspective on the day that we have come know as a day dedicated to mothers and mothering - inevitably though it probably did' become a little too commercialized' - great font choice.

Happy Mother's Day, Debi! I didn't know the history ~ but agree with Anna Jarvis that it quickly became largely commercialized and not at all the sentimental, personal tribute to our mothers...

We don't need "retail" to show our love and appreciation! It is still the hand-made cards I treasure -- and, when possible, the time spent together.

I join with you in honoring all the women who have cared for, loved, nurtured, and given their hearts to others -- but who may not have been mothers. They too deserve to be recognized and honored!

Here's hoping you are having a wonderful day!

Karenina

Hi Ms K, I am afraid that I made some changes in this and then my son popped in and my save didn't save when you read this so I am glad it was you that saw it. It was all supposed to be in four line stanza and I got rid of two lines I wasn't that crazy for in the first place.
Thanks for the kind comments for this tho. I sure appreciate it very much.
    Lotsa love, Debi

I do that, as well... Post then find I want to "nip and tuck" a bit along the way!

I think it is in a writer's genetic makeup!

Nicely done, Debi! I appreciate the tribute to childless women because this may well be an event dreaded by those who have suffered difficult
circumstances. I also agree with her concern of over-commercialisation for the same reasons. But a lovely, informative verse which celebrates this special event of the year. Well done! Debbie

Oh Shoot, I just came back from putting a thank you to you for helping me to see that we need to recognize these childless mothers. I keep wanting to say motherless mothers. LOL.......

Thanks so much. I saw some edits needed too, so just did it now and I think if finally is how I want it. Do you ever look back after you post and change things. I am horrible for hours, and today my kids came early for our brunch.

Anyway, thank you for your kindness, Debbie, as I appreciate you very much. I hope you don't mind me using your name in my notes.
    Lotsa love, Debbie......love, Debi

No, that's fine. And, yes, I'm changing things all the time. And even my reviews, I've got to double-check because I seem to be becoming increasingly dyslexic:(

And a happy Mother's Day to you. I suspect there will be few happy faces around your place today. The poem is well written and I think it is appropriate that it be done in rhyming verse. Good job. Terry.

Mother's do so much more than they ever get credit for doing. So many duties and expected to act around the clock at peak performance. But lucky for us, they do it out of love, not obligation. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Ric, it is kind of a strange story wasn't it?
And Yes, mothers are always doing for others out of love. Is there really any other way? I can't imagine any greater feeling than how it feels to be there for family. Thanks for the kind words, my friend. Love, Debi

Oh thank you for sharing the history of Mother's Day. I'm blessed reading this. Motherhood is the greatest calling, I believe, and like the Marines, a tough job! It's not for the faint of heart, that's for sure! I love being a mom and Grammy and I know you do too. Be blessed today and always, dearest friend.
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY, Debi Lee!
Love,
Sally Marie XOs!

A beautifully written poem Debi, oh yes indeed, I'm sure that it became as commercial in her day as it is in our. This is an excellent work, the language is terrific, the rhyme is spot on, no mistakes, I had a funny ideas it might have been American. Happy mother's day Debi, Blessings, Roy
