Well, it sounds like you've had many positive medical doctor experiences. That's good. My sister and I, who are both now, widows, grew up in a medical family - our father was a surgeon, and my first husband, an OB/Gyn. Now, both my internist and my sister's, each, got really angry when we refused the covid vaccine that was not properly tested, and also we both took Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine which Big Pharma refused to prescribe because it was cheap, readily available and they didn't make it. I have some good doctor friends, but I don't believe they are infallible. Did you know that many hospitals push the vaccine because they get paid for each covid shot given?
As for your new family doctor - I'm glad she takes medicare. That always helps. And your couple of shots of bourbon a day, I feel sure, help keep you well. Good for you.

Katharine, I am aware of the way the costs of medicine are distributed in this country. It does make one wonder about the effectiveness of the medicine. Thank you for reading. Terry.

Life was simpler back when there was one GP who was a family doctor. At that time I only very rarely needed a doctor. Now that I do ... well, I wrote recently about my rotating doctors. Frustrating. Your last line confused me a bit as I am not American. Here we all have a Medicare card which assures free treatment (unless doctors choose to add on their own personal feeas a bit extra, and we pay just the difference). Specialists we must pay for.

Medicare is the federal government program that provides health care insurance for those over 65. The cost is cheap compared to other insurance plans. There is some co pay. But doctors are not required to accept it. Thank you for reading. Terry.

That's what I would notice first, too, if they accepted Medicare patients! I'd also be curious about what languages they spoke, too.
You're a walking miracle if you have all that the weakened immunity plus A fib and the esophageal problem. I would question if you really have all that but I guess you are following the doctors' orders and are still doing well. Hope you like your new doctor! We're seeing a mess of them now - that we finally have an address!

God, I love your easy wit and conversational writing style. I think I've told you that before. With that style you'd do so well writing on Medium. I'm sure I've mentioned it before. I mentioned it to the departing other member of the Good ol' Boys and for a while, I thought he was joining. I miss the companionship, LOL.

Jay, thank you for the six stars. I also told Lee about Medium, and I have it booked marked and have looked at it. I am going to miss you around here. Terry.

Oh my goodness you have an awesome memory. That's a lot of doctors and friends to tribute.
One minor suggestion if I may. This sentence seemed off:
"She accepts medicare payment."
(Maybe 'as payment' or 'payments')
Just my two cents. Interesting read!

Thanks for reading. I thought about the last line a few times. When I was working for the doctors there business folks referred to it as payment. So that?s why I settled on it. Terry

Ah. Makes sense.

This is a thoroughly good read. It touches on the old days and how life was much simpler, safer. Things have changed. I read this story sitting in a doctors lounge waiting for a medical. My husband has Barrett's Esophagus. An interesting coincidence. Thank you for sharing your story which gave me a chuckle at the end. A six shower for you.

I love it, Terry! What a great memory you have for details, not uncommon in a man who spends countless hours editing and revising, not only his work, but the work of others.
You enormous sense of humor shines through this post as you describe encounter after encounter with the medical world.
I'm glad to know your lack of an adequate immune system has not kept you down, nor has any Deep Southern proclivity for racism. None does a man, or woman, any good.
The last line was amazing!! It's funny how our focus changes with age.
Great meeting you, my friend,
Rhonda

Comment from Pam Lonsdale
Although most doctors were men, you ended up with a woman? Was she a pediatric doctor, then when you got to be a "big boy" you saw the while male? Female doctors were unusual when we were kids.
Okay, you had me literally laughing out louds when talking about cutting off "things that were too big". Thank, God, you're a Baptist!
Paragraph that begins, "Dr. Douglas' practice saw young kids." You were "sitting" in the room, not "setting".
So, you recommend two shots of bourbon to keep the doctors (and infectious diseases) away. I always thought it was diet, exercise, and low stress environment. Your way sounds easier and more fun.
I've never heard of any doctor - let alone three! - calling to offer condolences. That's pretty damn impressive (not to mention compassionate).
Terry, you're the Alan Alda of FanStory! I hope that means something to you; I'm assuming since we're kinda close in age, it does.
A very entertaining story. Thanks for sharing. Usually when someone starts talking about their doctors' visits, I tune them right out.
I wish you good health:-)

Thank you for sharing this story with us. I had to smile in a lot of places. I think we all, or at least, most of us have stories about the different doctors we've seen through our lives. Since my husband was military for 23 years, we switched doctors often. That can always be an experience.

Oh, I love your humor, my friend. I especially love your
"Ignorance is bliss" attitude. I vasilate back and forth from knowing I'm a doctor, thinking I'm a doctor, and wishing I knew nothing. So over this body today I could scream. Thanks for lifting my spirits and making me laugh.
I'm glad you're well, and that the Hot Doc accepts Medicare.
Sending you my best today as always.
