Well written piece on Peter Max. I especially love that you purchased "Flower Blossom Lady" in honor of your lovely wife's birthday. A fine way to keep her in your heart. I know next to nothing about art, but I'll look up the artist to learn a bit more. Thanks for sharing this interesting piece. Blessings. Carol

Carol, thank you very much for the six stars and your wonderful words. That is very kind of you. If you google Peter Max Flower Blossom Lady, you will see an image of the piece. He did many different versions, but they are all similar. Thanks. Terry.

I'll look it up. Thanks. Enjoyed your piece.

Just about to go outside and spread some mulch around some hydrangeas in my wild and wooly garden, when I was drawn to the title of your exceptionally well-crafted work of non-fiction.
I enjoyed every paragraph not only for its message but the manner in which you wrote it.
Nothing "hoity-toity" about your writing Terry.
I, too, appreciate fine art, and have a soft spot in my heart for Peter Max artworks. And while I never knew Zoe, I have a soft spot in my heart for her as well; we gardeners are like that...
Thank you for sharing!

Diane, thank you for the six-star review and your very kind and wonderful words. I do know about spreading the mulch! Terry.
-
My pleasure!
I just now came back inside from wrangling the branches of an unruly Limelight hydrangea! Whew! Feisty bugger! :)
-
LOL! write a humorous poem about it!
-
I just may do that, Terry!
But at the moment, I need a swig of something to calm me down... or lots of BenGay! :)

Cheers!

Wow, Terry! This is such an interesting and wonderful story of an artist. As an artist, myself, I am excited to learn about that kind of impressionism. There's always so much to learn. I love angels and never painted any. Yet?
The best part of this story is, of course, Zoe! What a beautifully good idea to keep her Spirit near, and to honor her! :)
Many blessings,
Alex

Alex, thank you for the wonderful review and the six stars. If you are interested you can google Peter Max, Flower Blossom Lady, and you can see a version of the artwork I have. Max painted many versions, like a lot of artists. They are similar but also unique. Terry.

What I knew about Peter Maxx could have been poured into a thimble with room for a (mini) ice cube. You have the best way of informing us while also entertaining us. I went away and Googled this artist and his many wonderful paintings. What I learned is I can't afford an Etsy knock-off ~ One of the cheapest I could find was $78.00. So hats off to you, Terry.
Collecting art is a worthwhile hobby and when I viewed "Flower Blossom Lady" I had tears of joy brimming...Zoe, MASTER GARDENER...she certainly provided you with a lifetime of love! How fitting that you have this to remind you of her always blossoming joyous presence!
I read that Peter Maxx (Finkelstein) stopped painting, due to his dementia and other health problems in 2015.
Through your collection, and its most personal meaning as related in this story, his art is timeless!
From the Park West Galler site I found this incredible fact (sorry I am unable to post the link her as a fomral citation)--still it tells a bit more about this man, and his wonderful heart:
"Max also created portraits of the 356 firefighters who lost their lives at the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. He acquired photographs of the firefighters used on photo IDs to paint each portrait.
Each work was wrapped in an American flag and given to the surviving family members during a ceremony at Madison Square Garden."
AMAZING!

Karenina, thank you for the review. As you found out, there is a lot to his art, mine doesn't even scratch the surface. Terry.

I disagree?

I must admit I'm not an art fan, in fact know very little, but my youngest grandson is a budding artist. Isn't it funny, men have no trouble believing in angels, but have trouble with entertaining a judging God? Thanks for the information of art, I wouldn't have the money for collecting art, although my financial advisor, advises me to buy some, blessings Roy
Typo: Diagnosed (demina) dementia?

". . . who needed to go TO college, get married, . . ." Add "to"
I wish he had painted those Corvettes - they would have become moving works of art:-)
The only thing I've ever known Peter Max for was his sports art - which, I believe, was a large part of his portfolio. There were posters made of his sports-inspired art. I had one he did for one of the Olympics - back in the 80s, I believe.
Now I know more about him, thanks to you.

Pam, thanks for the corrections. I think the sports artist you are thinking of is Leroy Nieman. He was famous for his sports scenes. His work has some similarities to Peter Max. Terry.
-
Max did too, although I could be wrong about the Olympics.
-
Nieman did do the Olympics, horse racing, golf, auto racing?

I am humbled by your meekness and love of art -- how very wonderful.
"Four years ago I bought my last Max, for a special occasion. It's a bright, colorful oil entitled Flower Blossom Lady. The occasion would have been Zoe's seventy-fifth birthday. In my mind, this flower blossom lady represented her as a Master Gardener. The painting added color and joy to my home, which had been missing."
If anyone reads this and thinks you are "hoity-toity", forgive them, for they lack understanding. Thank you for sharing! I enjoyed every word.

Very interesting. I'd never heard of Peter Max, but I'm eager to look him up. As is always said, I don't know much about art, but I know what a like. I like art that speaks to me. I didn't know you are a collector. Thanks for sharing all this.

What a beautiful post and, even with the serious, emotional and educational themes, you managed to include a dose of humor. I love it, Terry. The story illustrates so much of your kind and compassionate nature in the included 'just below the surface' thoughts you allow your reader to glimps. I am more than impressed and your post earns more than these 6 stars! Thanks for sharing. ann
