It is so good to read about positive and interactive teaching experiences. I am in awe of the concept that students come to learn, and teachers get to teach.

Thank you so much. Yes, you are right. It?s a fine balance at times. The first step is that they respect the teacher, and the teacher gives a vision of how exciting it can be to actually enjoy learning. Firm, fair, and fun.

Great piece. Nicely organized.
I can't say that I ever had a teacher as dedicated, but thinking back there might have been a few that were as dedicated as yourself, that I failed them. My experience was individual excellence, no group learning at all.
Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for a wonderful review and the honour of six stars. Amazing gift, and I appreciate it.
In my French classes of 32 fourteen year olds I did speaking activities with the whole class, then half the class (and each half wanted to do better than the other half) then teams of eight, then pair work so they would be really fluent and comfortable. Sixteen pairs all speaking in French at once. When I held up my hand they had to stop their practice - instantly. Then we?d have volunteers to do their little role plays out the front and sometimes the class would vote for the best pair. They loved it. We had a lot of fun ways for group work to really help the weaker ones. Some wonderful memories.

I always enjoy your stories about your days in (and out!) of the classroom. In this one, you use the refrain "that's why" to the benefit of the story you tell. Very well done, and I wish you luck in the contest.
Yes, the life lessons far outlast those of French and unneeded mathematics.

Thank you so much Pam. There is no greater joy than to know my stories are enjoyed by others. I greatly value the six stars. I enjoyed the memories this story brought back to me. Teaching is very rewarding - the rewards of making learning a pleasure for students far outweighs the time and effort involved in preparation. Thank you again.

Your career path and Elaine's could be very similar, she taught in low socio economic areas for about 30 years, after retirement she taught English as a second language, and even taught tertiary level, she's been teaching for the last 15 years in UTA, so she's never finished with teaching. Congratulations Wendy, blessings Roy

Your basic principles made you a good teacher Wendy and the key here is acceptance. To be accepted in the team no matter your ability is so important to keep the class respectful of each other and allow those students who are capable to shine and those who were less able unashamed. You should be very proud of yourself Wendy as your many years of teaching have encouraged many students to have success as adults, a fine post, love Dolly x x x

I just love your story, and this is how a real teacher should be, role model, inspiring, ready to demonstrate and invent new trick's to keep the students focus. Dear Wendy for sure you touched their souls, and change their hearts by giving them the most precious gift, the gift of survival with real skills. Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest.
