What a wonderful story, and what wonderful mum you had, no wonder you turned out so well, a lot of my poems are written to verbalise what I believe, it brings me great comfort. I like what Kate wrote, "I write because I have an itch" I do too, I only want to write God's truth, and honour others, bless you Debi, good luck, wonderful post. Blessings Roy

I am glad it did not deter you from writing. How quick to pass judgment that teacher was - not even asking if it was your own work! I am glad your mother set her straight and that she and the other children apologised. I really like the concluding two lines to your mother's poem! They are wise words for all of life. Best wishes for your entry in the contest.

Well done Mum, I say. I can't believe your teacher accused you, Debi it must have been a great poem. I could visualise your Mum storming in. I often wish my mum and dad were slive when I started writing. A lovely read Debi, good luck in the contest. Cheers

This was touching and heartfelt. I'm glad your mother supported you, and didn't let that experience stop you from writing. Writing is hard, because you put your heart on the page, and then put it into someone else's hands. Your story was a beautiful story of expectation, heartbreak, family, and perseverance. Thank you for telling it.

Your mom is so amazing!! Thank you for sharing this story which we have heard a part of but I didn't know that she made extra effort to take you to the school and call out that teacher for accusing you of letting your mom write your poem for you! That was so unjust of her and the other students! But people remain like that even as adults and a small rumor can become a fire that hurts a person falsely accused. Hope this does well in the contest! Virtual six!!

Sure, you wouldn't have known about that since we didn't really know each other back when I first started. It is in my "Why I Write" poem. But it was way in the beginning when I first got here. Amazing how we don't forget something's from our childhood. Not the real bad, or not the exceptionally good things either. However, this was a highlight of good for me, because I was always so jealous of my mom's students. They all seemed to love her so much and by the time we got her, she was busy grading papers and didn't' have much time at the end of most days. It's amazing how young ones look at things. That is why I said in my story that just the fact that she put me as a priority was a gift in itself. But I will never forget what my mom said to her, even tho I was supposed to stay outside, I could hear my mother's calm, but angry tone. I was so proud of her. Yet I had strict orders to go back to school and act like nothing happened and not be mean to the others. Anyway, thank you for the very kind comments dear Helen, and for your virtual six. It means every bit as much as the real one. I am on my way back to your place, as I already have your review written for your story about what you can and can't believe in the News. I wrote the review then copied it, so I could edit and come back. I was just so tired that I didn't want to say anything wrong. I care so much about you my dear and someday we will have to catch up. I really want to know how things are going with you! Thanks again, sweet friend!

Writing is indeed a balm for the soul. A way to clear out one's head so those ugly thoughts don't reverberate around in there getting ever louder. Words are a way of souls connecting with other souls across the miles for pain and love, suffering and joy, awe and wonder are universal emotions. It lets us know we are not alone in this big, big world.
A teacher once accused my oldest son of forging my husband's signature. My son was horrified and told my husband, who was also a teacher in the same building. That didn't end well.
One thing to consider: There are quite a few paragraphs starting with 'I.' Maybe switch up a couple of the sentence structures so it's not so repetitive.
Thanks so much for sharing, and best wishes in the contest.

Faith, I thank you so very much for your lovely comments for my Why I Write poem, for being so thoughtful in your review and gracious six stars. I am sorry about your situation too with your son. I have long ago, stopped worrying about this situation, but so thankful for my mom that I wanted to make sure I included her in the reason I write. There isn't much of a better place than right here to feel good about your writing. Thanks for your suggestion, and I will go take a look at that. You are so appreciated, my dear friend.

Your entry for this contest is very well-written. I can understand how you felt when you were going through that experience, but am glad you realized that your Mother was on your side. I like her saying: "If you love what you're doing and give it your best
Then ignore all the bad and keep all the rest"
I also like that your most important reason for writing is to spread God's truth to others. I am so glad we are allowed to do that on this site, that is the biggest reason I stay here.

I'm surely not going to enter this contest. You have expressed this so beautifully, it would be too much of a challenge to try to beat it. Best of luck in the contest . . . and I love the memory of your mother!

Now you're just trying to be nice, and giving me a better chance. Your writing is wonderful, and. I cannot wait to review more of the friends that have been there for me. Like I said in my last thank you message, I am excited that I'll be able to see the screen for longer periods of time, once I have it done. Right now it is just hard to keep writing and thanking people. And Heaven forbid I would just say a few words, lol, some just deserve a better thanks than that. With that said my lovely friend, thank you for this extra special review and words for my story. I appreciate it and you so very much.
Your six stars are most definitely appreciated too. Thanks again.

You bless my life in a special way, my dear friend!

Ah, this is so beautiful and tells me so much about the marvelous person you are, Debi, and colored in your past for me that I could understand even better. My mom wasn't a teacher, officially, but she believed in me the same way as your mom did and defended me to her dying day. A delightful read, my friend. Precious, just precious!
Sending you my best today as always.
