Lingering Devotion Part-4
Ric and David return after 3 years.38 total reviews

Well, Ric, I think you've found your niche in the Romantic genre. You bring some toughness into it, but as long as the characters stay close to their emotions and are not afraid to risk everything on the next roll, there will always exist difficult but ultimately solveable crises. And your writing has a way of dragging your reader by the heart into the fray to experience the journey along with the characters.

Thank you, Jay, for your generous review and kind words. This story is outside my comfort zone, but Sam Shepard once told me to get out of my comfort zone if I wanted to get better. I hope you like it. Much appreciated!

Which Sam Shepard? Not the actor/writer ...
-
Yes, that Sam Shepard. Pulitzer prize winning, Academy Award nominated actor/writer. He lived just a few miles from me and became friends after he read a newspaper article I wrote.

How great is that! I am so easily star-struck. I embarrass myself. They don't put their legs in their pants the same way I do. I'm sure of it!

It wasn't the ending I expected, but it was always heading that way and you didn't let us down. It's really interesting how wise Ric is when he's advising David and Garland, but can't get his own s--t together. That's so typical. But, I was glad to see that he stuffed down the white bunny and went for it. Well done, Ric. I enjoyed reading all 4, one after the other. You have an amazing imagination, and a flippant style that make your stories entertainment that crosses the male/female divide. So glad you're on this site.
BTW: My ex also had a thing for gymnasts...something about dexterity?ð???

There is nothing you could have said that I'd have enjoyed more than "It wasn't the ending I expected." I had my ending all ready, the big flip that leaves readers in shock. Then, I decided to give them what they expected all along, hoping it would be more unexpected than ever. LOL. Your BTW line is the greatest! I'm just so glad for your reviews with all the stars and kind words, but most of all, I'm happiest that you get it. All of it. I was ecstatic when your name showed up in my inbox last week after the extended absence. Now stick around and post something for me to read. Thanks so much for your encouragement. You've made my month. I appreciate YOU!

What a wonderful story, and you did a great job. I like the fact that you kept Lori and Ric together on their own terms. I can't remember, but I think you're in the middle of your night, so have a great Monday. Shirley

Thank you so much, Shirley, for your fantastic review and stars. There is nothing that makes me happier than for those I read and enjoy regularly to enjoy and be entertained some small bit by my crazy fabrications. LOL. I appreciate YOU!

Eight days?! Is that some kind of record, lol?!!
This reads as one of those relationships where two people are connected by their feelings for each other, but life has other plans for them. And although they finally come together after three years apart, and they have so much time together in their love for each other, neither is ever satisfied. They weren't satisfied when they were apart, or completely when they were together.
I think some people are always looking for more, and nothing is perfect in life.
All we can do is continue to turn the pages and write another . . .

Yes, eight days nonstop would certainly be a record never to be broken again. LOL. But I'm sure the action was more off than on for the eight days they spent together. Is anyone ever totally satisfied with anything? Not often. But are they willing to work at making things better? Of course, there are few perfect relationships, and none where both parties are completely satisfied in every way. And then, there is the other big problem, people are always looking or needing more. But thanks for your generous review and perceptive comments in that all we can do is turn the page . . . and keep searching. I appreciate YOU!

So true. I enjoyed reading this. It's funny how life turns out sometimes. The best laid plans go in surprising different directions cause life gets in the way. It is what it is as my grandpa used to say...Good job. Good Luck.

Thank you so much, Barbara, for your extra special six-star review and kind words. Your grandpa was a smart man and I agree, the best laid plans go wrong. I'm reading a book right now from my favorite writer Sidney Sheldon called The Best Laid Plans. LOL. I appreciate your time and encouraging review and comments.

Dang, that's two-thirds of my sixes, but I did like the story, and I think it is well-written. I was curious how you would explain the first chapter when we found out she had died in 2019. But you did it in a very clever, very realistic way. I am not saying I have been there and done that, but then I do understand...Same time next year. Well done. Terry.

Thank you so much, Terry for your fantastic six-star review and comments. Actually, like in most fictional stories, there is more truth in this one than I care to admit. LOL. But the two Ric and Lori had a misunderstanding and hadn't talked for three years, until he broke down and contacted her. He was late, and she had died two years earlier. I can't thank you enough for all these stars. You've certainly made my week! It's always a pleasure to read your stories and to get your comments and reviews. I appreciate YOU!

Thirty-plus years! One would think they could work something out in that length of time. Still, it worked for them in some strange way. We must take happiness whenever and wherever we can.

Thank you so much, Missy! And, Sweet Melissa is my favorite song too. LOL. I wish you had read the first two chapters first because they are all building blocks for the next and I think, hope, you would have enjoyed them. Hopeless romantics that you and I both are. I can't thank you enough for the stars and your encouraging review! I appreciate YOU!

Your summary statement makes perfect sense in a perfect world, unfortunately I live in Bizzaro world where up is down and round is flat as a pancake run over by an eighteen-wheeler.
