This was very well written. You are a master story teller. I loved the humor, imagery, visuals and amazing presentation.
I heard many cases of parents or grandparents washing their offsprings' mouths with soap to prevent them from using foul language (lol).
A great flash fiction, good luck in the contest.

I loved your little story. The washing your mouth out with soap for swearing was very common in my day. I'm a baby boomer. It happened to us all. With our kids we decided a small spoon of mustard on the tongue would be yukky but my husband grabbed the curry jar by mistake once. Not nice!!! Thanks for sharing Franky

That was the saying back in the golden or old days; I will wash your mouth out with soap if you swear. My mother taught me this same thing; like your story because it brings back sacred memories that I treasure.

Boy! Would that be a shock to a child, fancy someone washing one's dad's mouth with a cake of soap, that only happens to kids.,.my father was never a kid really? No wonder the poor child's shocked, his dad is perfect...isn't he? Beautifully written, a great entry in this contest, well done, blessings Roy

I thought that the soP wash was a joke, that is until my sister told me my mother washed my sister's mouth often
So I enjoyed your telling of the dad getting the soap for the most often reason bad words!
Good luck in the contest

This is so clever--you skillfully segue from mundane reminiscences to the kicker--the punchline is hilarious--I am amused by your footnote. Glad you lucked out.

Very amusing. I rather think a kid in 1960 would have had his own experience of soap in the mouth, I sure did. But maybe his family had moderated the punishment to go with the racier language.

I know what that bar of soap is about, I heard of people getting their mouth washed out, I think, when they said something wrong.
The person needs his/her mouth washed out.
Congratulations on being Recognized.
Good luck with your poem.

Terry,
Oh, wow! That is the perfect response to the story Granny just told -- I'm not sure why you didn't just paint a target on your face and start calling, 'Nyah! Nyah!' hahahahaha What a fun piece!
