Hi Sally, what a lovely story. I loved it. Love and a great pastor can win against whatever is thrown at them. I remember once when I flew into New York in early March. Everybody were in shorts and T-shirts, and the next day we woke up to snow on the streets. It's a city of contradiction in every sense and form. I loved this story. Very well written. Ulla:)))

This is a tribute to determination in the face of incredible opposition in the form of nature, almost like the very powers were conspiring against their union of a lifetime,I think after one is consecrated to God, this is the second most important event...marriage. Well done Sally, an excellent post, well done, blessings Roy

Hi Sally,
Your true story reminded me of my own trial of trying to make it home on Christmas Eve, 1969. Perhaps I'll write it up for a Christmas contest. It's the worst weather I've ever driven in. I was only 19 at the time.
I can't imagine why they'd want to go ahead with the wedding in such dangerous weather. Nobody should be on the roads in a blizzard like that... for any reason. Winter driving is no fun in good weather!
We never know what we'll get. I've worked my way through 5 feet of snow, shoveling all the way. But what would you do if your house was buried?
We had an ice storm back in 2013 at Christmastime. It was brutal. I stood outside with my neighbors afterwards and listened to the birch trees breaking and crashing to the ground. We had no power for 5 days! Luckily, we had a wood stove at the time. We could cook on it as well. Our youngest son and daughter-in-law had power, so we headed into their house for our turkey dinner. Why is it we remember the most difficult times, and not the good times?
I like this section,
I saw a few pictures of the happy couple playing out in the snow a few days after the great blizzard. I asked about something protruding at their feet.
"Oh, that's the rooftop," replied Shawna. "We climbed out the attic window and onto the roof for those shots."

Nicely penned, Sally! It makes me jittery, though.
Hugs,
Kimbob

You have such a wonderful memory. No wonder we get along so well. Thank you for this lovely review and for the stars. It is so appreciated and makes me feel like I've gone back in time and retrieved a wonderful love story. This stirred up a lot of memories of our time living there and the birth of our two oldest sons.

We lived there for seven years and I just have to say it was the most difficult life I have ever known. It is such a chore to make it from morning to night... and make it through the night with heat (and fire) and groceries and provisions when the weather is that severe. Winters up there are so severe for a born and bred southerner. I arrived there with nothing more than a London Fog coat with a liner. The first thing we had to do was go out and buy clothes that were warm because we had nothing. Our wardrobe was laughable. I thought the Almighty had brought me up there to kill me!

The lake effect snow is never ending. We were just a few minutes away from Niagara Falls right between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. It was like a giant snowcone machine. I survived, but I'm no longer Sally on the Prairie. :) I do miss the Fall and the view of the foliage from Goat Island. Niagara-on-the-Lake is breathtaking and I remember our frequent shopping trips to Eaton Center in Toronto. We'd go shopping and eat dinner at The Spaghetti Factory.

Sending you my best today as always,
    Sally :)) XOs

True love knows no bounds. They were fortunate that they were both of the same minds and love conquered all. Not many a woman that I am familiar with would have sacrificed the celebration of a Wedding and gone along with what he wanted. How wonderful that they were on the same page.

This is a beautiful love story. The story I'm posting is of my marriage and family, and I just finished the part set in 1977. We were in New Orleans at the time. but I made note of things happening in the news and I told about that horrible blizzard in New England and the North East.

Talk about Snowbirds in love, Sally. I have seen it snow one time in Brownsville, other than that... What is snow? :) I'm now living in Hondo, Texas, don't know how bad it snows here, but I hope us Brownbirds can manage. :) The weather cannot stop love, Sally, only death can keep us apart. And then, who knows?

I'm sorry you don't know what snow is but it really can't be nice at times. I have lived in the north and the south mainly in the east. Right now I'm in Florida my husband's native home. I do miss the fall and the change of seasons but I do not miss the heavy snow in this area of New York. I'm glad you enjoyed my story and I thank you so much for stopping by.
Sending my best day as always,
    Sally xo

This is a very heart warming story about love prevailing. I always see Buffalo as a heavy snow place to do lake effects snow. But even Buffalo could not keep up with this one. Your story is well written. The picture you choose matches the story.

I doubt many couples would have that much devotion and I believe that's partly what's wrong with America today. We don't have family values because the marriages are bases in faith in God. Thank you for sharing.
