This is a fun chapter... I love how stand up they are in this paragraph...
"Petro and Leif are absolutely right to raise these questions," Kraid said, breaking into the tense unease, and, in his quiet placating way, he tried to calm the situation. "We've made some dreadful mistakes and lessons have to be learned from this fiasco. Instead of us apportioning blame, we must ensure these things never happen again."

Very nice and good to see Mildred is just fine. those Powers do seem to have a 'get of jail free card'. lol

"I could have made changes, and didn't. So,--" - I would remove the comma from here after so.

LOL! They are a force unto themselves! I was hoping someone would let me know it the comma there was right or not, and you did. I notice you never mentioned the one with the three ellipses. ( , ... ) I take it that is right. The comma and M-dash, is a different thing as Petro interrupted Jowell. But I wasn't sure. I've taken that comma out now, but left the one with the ellipses in. Now I need you to confirm that's right!!

Aha, you finally reveal some powers that be, and show them in emergency council over poor Mildred's pending demise. I am impressed with their descriptions and dialogue. You've given them personalities.
A nice segue back to 1996. Nice touch with Veronica's weariness. I delighted at Mildred's recovery, and how you introduced it. Mildred's description of how she was feeling was typically stoic and colorful.
I always enjoy the loving interchanges with Veronica and James and well as the easy friendship with Mildred. Another excellent chapter.

Mildred was rescued, but mistakes were made, and hopefully lessons learned. "You do realize she can't be brought back to life so soon after the last time?" Petro reminds Jowell. It's a reminder I hope Jowell keeps in mind the next time a dangerous situation arises for Mildred.
Great storytelling.

This is a wonderful chapter to your book. I love how you are presenting the powers that be. I also like that you are addressing an unknown time. This makes the story even more interesting. I am glad that Mildred is okay. I also think the powers that be are doing things that need to be done. Sending them both back and have Mildred kill the Vice Admiral is not a good idea. This would be putting Mildred back in danger I would think. Well done. It flows well and actually makes the time travel thing a little better for me with the powers that be.

Well this is interesting that the powers that be stepped in to fix Mildred. I didn't think we would hear from them at all. You fooled me. Now they will go back and try again. I cringe at Mildred having to kill someone.

In future, is the way we in the UK say it when not specifically meaning 'the future'. You are not the only one to mention this, so I Googled it for my friend which showed both the UK and the US references to, 'in future'. Basically, it's similar to saying, Next time....
