I somehow wonder how death by cancer can be squeezed into 50 words. True what you say about cancer. My wife has been lucky and saved by the grace of God six times already, six different bouts with the Big C. Well written. I did not find any errors.

Thank you. I'm so glad your wife has survived cancer and hope she continues to do so.

You have squeezed months of agony into these fifty words, in a way that really brings home to the reader what a tragedy cancer is, both for the victim and for those who are near and dear to him. Simple, powerful and effective writing.

Thank you. It is easy to write about something that is so close to one's heart.

I am so sorry to your sorrows. I hate cancer. Its affects too many of us. Your story was powerful and read like flash fiction from the sickness contest that is on fanstory right now. It is closes, but keep your eye open because you are great at flash fiction. Great job. An emotional read. I wish you and your husband the best.

Thank you. I have become used to the fact of his imminent death. I try to make every day a good one for him while we are still together.

This is a great entry for the Sickness writing prompt. Your story resonates with every person that reads it.... we all remember someone who wasted away with cancer....Well done and good luck in the contest.

Thanks for the kind comments. Unfortunately, this is a true story and it was supposed to be fiction. My bad for not paying attention to the rules.

Cancer does not discriminate as to race, color or creed.
Cancer is a vile, wretched disease--an Equal Opportunity Destroyer.
My mother-in-law was taken by the pancreatic variety at age 57.
Not a pretty eay to go.
Good luck in the contest.

Thanks, Dean. Unfortunately, I wasn't paying attention and listed it as nonfiction so It isn't in the contest. My bad.

I'm so sorry for what you both are going through. I lost my ex-husband in January, he lived with me and I was his caregiver. He didn't have cancer, but rather heart-related ailments. It's difficult no matter what takes loved ones. The photo of your husband shows him to be a handsome man. Marilyn

Thanks. He was a handsome man but is now a walking skeleton.

God bless him. I hope you are doing alright. Caregiving is tough. I know, I've done it.

My thoughts are with you. Thing about dying is there is no rhyme or reason why some people can go through life charmed with no problems, while others die or are dying. It has little to do with what kind of person you are. It just is. Best wishes.

Thanks. Yep, you are right. My husband has had a long and interesting life. He turned 89 the last of August. He is not in any pain so he intends to simply live the rest of his life in peace.

You're welcome. Take care, Prettybluebirds.

Good job, Mystery Author, with your contest entry. Although it is sad, you did a great job telling this part of his story in such few words. The picture is perfect-a great reminder of happier times. Thanks for sharing and best wishes. Jan

Thanks. I saw my mother-in-law and my brother both go through cancer treatments and they were terrible. The chemo made them both sick as well as other side effects. My brother died in 2008 of liver cancer from agent orange despite all the painful treatments. I think it may help some people or they wouldn't use chemo. There are a lot of advanced treatments now that didn't exist then. Hang in there and don't give up. I will pray for you.

I think this is a good entry for the Sickness Flash Fiction - 50 Words, although it is a very sad story.
My thoughts are with the two of you.
Good luck to you with the competition.
