Michael, I love Christmas poems and this one is a delight. Great visions dance in our heads as we read your wonderful descriptive words. A truly great picture is created about how wonderful Christmas is and the real reason for it as explained in your last line. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Hi. Sorry to be so late. I am so happy you enjoyed this. It was fun to write remembering Christmas over the years and of course the true meaning that never changes. Thank you for the kind words, mikey

This, Mikey, is a wonderful, joyful Christmas poem. Your work needs no picture as the words paint the picture clearly.

This work has reached the exceptional level

Everything from your picture choice, and well-chosen words and rhyme-scheme brings the warm glow of Christmas to mind. Christmas is a time of giving, and receiving. Giving to those most dear to us, and receiving the peace that can only be found in Jesus' birth.

I really love this piece. It gives off such a content, warm, and uplifting feeling. I like the use of the adjective "innocent" to go with souls as it points to child like faith as opposed to "aged" faith which seems to have to many qualifications. The green jacket stanza... excellent and my favorite. Evokes all kinds of good memories only from the past. I think it's the "empty pockets" part that does that. It implies, "bring no negative baggage," and with the stanza wrapped up with the pure love of Jesus- no strings attached, just come, it really aids in wiping out any hurtful or otherwise bad stuff that keeps us from forgetting the good. The last line says it all. No matter what your position or place in life and regardless what life has thrown at you or given, if one has Christ, they truly already have all they need. Very thought provoking piece.

An entrance graceful without noise--no much for my belief in a fat Santa struggling down the chimney and landing on his arse.
Empty pockets good mem'ries there-- this line implies so much about your generosity!

no one is poor for Christ is near - a thought that can not be repeated often enough.

Merry Christmas winding down.

"An entrance graceful without noise
wrapped packages of heartfelt joys
The sun shines bright through every bough
innocent souls rejoicing now"

most talk of snow in their Christmas stories and poems while we in Australia have between 35-40's
great picture for your poem
your words allow the reader to see and feel your thoughts on Christmas the snow, gifts, Santa, and the love of Christ is all you need to be rich
you have good alliteration throughout your poem in
"chimney" "clean"
"swift" "silent" "stuff"
"listening" "loose"
"sun" "shines" "souls"
poem flows well easy read
cheers SC

You capture that sense of delightful anticipation so well in:
'Eyes are closed but not asleep
listening for loose floorboards creak"
and I love your line, "wrapped packages of heartfelt joys". There is so much in this song to enjoy, Mikey. It sums up what we value about Christmas in a wonderful way.

Michael, I thought you were an agnostic or atheist as 2 brothers of the un-cloaked recommended you pal...hey who cares though as Jesus was a man of honor, truth and courage and one I admire unlike the christians who blaspheme in his name. I never follow a syllable count as I play by a musicians ear but just my style pal. I feel your best poems I have read so far were free verse like the POM.

Merry Christmas....rock on!

Christ-opher~ :)

Hahaha. I love that. "The uncloaked". I am not a big fan of "the Christians" either and they probably consider me uncloaked as well. I have a piece about Jesus to the effect that "Even if you are not" which is pretty much along the lines of what you are saying. I'm a musician as well and they are absurd here with there syllable count and meter. Have they listened to an aria lately. I prefer free verse but, just to let them know that the free verse people can rhyme and count syllables too..... Anyway. Merry Christmas to you as well!! The rocking shall continue. mikey
