Well, the poem and the presentation are more than excellent and demand deep consideration from the reader, but on to your questions in the author's notes...
Been wondering the same thing myself the last few years, and there have been specific and very persistent "psychic vampires" that caused the thought process. Caused a severe year long depression as well. Took one hell of a fight and more energy and time than I cared to give up to deal with it... and the ____'s are still at it and enjoying every minute of it, seeing nothing wrong with it. No. I do not believe all people have souls. Couldn't say if they just came from somewhere out there and not made in the image of God or if there was a "malfunction in the process," or if somewhere along the line they willingly "sold their soul" to find a way to easily boost their own ego. Best if one can "kill them and bury them in the backyard," but sadly the damage these kinds of people do never really heals. Sad since in their present state their worth as a human being is negligible at best and their "doings" and opinions are not one tiny bit a statement of the worth of those they attack. But such is life I suppose.

I've done a little bit of reading on Psychopaths, which is what instantly came to mind when I read this. Their brains are different. The amygdala doesn't work. According to the article, 1 in every four or 5 people are psychopaths. There are six people in my family. (I'm putting my thumb on my forehead.) NOT IT.
But I suppose being a psychopath doesn't make one a serial killer, just incapable of empathy. I don't think I've ever come across the darkness you're speaking of though, and I hope I never do.

Potent. Intense. Shocking and distributing, even, especially with the clash-y artwork. The frenetic energy makes it visually unappealing and provocative, which suits the theme well...
Yes, I've noticed psychic Vampire people and cruel people seem to have no soul, but I also believe, idealistically, that the spark of soul thrives hidden in the deepest core of heart for EVERYONE, without exception. such souls, it is just supremely well disguised.
NOTES
Ambassador of a fiery hell--memorable line. Not sure if Hell should be capped?
he closing twist is startling!
The consonance of K sounds and fine rhymes in closing stanza are impressive, too--and suit the tone of the work well. Nice internal rhyme with back and black. Very musical.
In the second to last line, I suggest adding "do' before 'you really have to ask'
Potent work! Skillfully penned.
Whew!
Warmly, rd

This is an interesting piece. I like the duality of spirit and color. In answer to your question, I've never met anyone that actually meets this description, but some have come close. I guess it depends on the person, but to some we each could appear to be devoid of a soul. Good job and good luck.

Psychic vampires come in so many forms, some drawing away the pain of others, others leeching off all that is good. But what is just as bad are those who are the opposite dropping their own bad feelings into others' minds like a cuckoo puts her eggs into another bird's nest. This poem asks a good question and shows an unfettered and unabashed honesty.

What a powerful tapestry of words you have written! I am speechless as to the insight you have shown; unfortunately, if a reader NEEDS your Author Notes to "get it" that reader is NOT on your page.
I liked this work a lot. I HOPE those that need a life "shoulder tap" read it and are left a bit better for having done so. Audrey

Son, your art work just real is hard to look out while trying to read your poem. I believe Larry had a demented soul, or inherited general cruses from the incest that was in their family. Only God has all the answers. God loves you and we do too.

I think there are monsters in this world - people who murder and show no remorse. I've never met anyone like you describe in your well written poem but some people have "dead eyes" and I always wonder about them - they scare me a bit.

Loved the double meaning laced at the end with "it's who is behind this mask." Your poetry is exceptional in the way it use the one word for a vehicle but doesn't play it out, it strikes you and haunts you, as if one reading it can feel the black forming cracked, black ink stains through out the body, and one is helpless to cry out. OK, this is an extra-creepy one, Dean. Scared the bejabbers out of me. I am grateful to say I've never met anyone quite this evil. I do believe they exist as sociopaths and psychopaths. Well done and very frightening.
