I think you did a good job in this chapter handling the topic. I think you are right on with the characters and how they would act in this situation. An editorial comment-in line 8 there is the word bee and I think it needs to be been. I do not see room for improvement.

This is sad story to read, you present the elements very well and the characters have form and shape. The dialog kept the story going.
