Wise words indeed. Children are sponges and their emotions react to what they observe. If they don't reflect their emotions outwardly, they turn them within and that could be just as dangerous.

The picture alone breaks my heart. I scrolled by this several times today before deciding to read it. You've made a great point, but I doubt there are many on this site who need to read this. We have an outlet; many don't. I'm not making excuses for them.
It hurts my heart to see a child or an animal in situations where there is only tension. Children do not ask to be brought into this world. If you are going to have them, you should be willing to raise them in love.
Sorry, I didn't mean to rant. I wish you luck in the contest.

Oh Pam, the stories I could tell you about my mother in-law, one of my children's grandmas. She could have used this. LOL
But hope you are right, that there is nobody that cruel here.

I liked that line, "They learn by how we live." This cuts right to the chase, in a clean, sharp, simple way. And it challenges us all to live by example, and be mindful of how we behave around children. After all, they pick up on all our behavior, to learn how behave themselves; they are new to this world and society. estory

Well, I don't think there could be a better lesson for parents than what this wee poem espouses -- children truly are great imitators, and parents are really their whole world, especially when they are very young.
Nicely done!

I suspect competition drives many would be authors to write haikus and other short things but how infrequently do they make sense? I get the drift from this post. Well done.

Ciao!
Truer words were never spoken. Our children are like sponges ..they absorb lots .. and they see and hear more than we think.
You don't read many poems focused on how to educate children here. Well done!

This is a fantastic little 5/7/5. It presents a magical lesson.
Children learn so much from their parents. Good and bad.
We must do better molding little minds.

Such great words of wisdom in so few words. Very appropriate in these divided times we live in. Indeed we must all show kids how to love and not to hate.

Your verse is so apt and carries a basic truth. Parents must lead by example and make sure their kids understand what is right and wrong, good and bad, and love and hate... all in balance and proportion. So well said. Good luck.

Such an effective visual to accompany your 5-7-5 verse which succinctly reinforces our duty as guardians to "teach by example" and not simply "do as I say." It's confusing enough out there as a child. Well done for nailing it for the contest:) take care Debbie
