I am a nature lover as well and I enjoy watching all the David Attenborough PBS documentaries on Nature. He had one special Owl feature, like the one in your lovely poem.

DonandVicki,
Thank you for the great review. Owls are majestic birds and I love them.

They are quite the formidable presator, aren't they! I saw an interesting video last week of a family whose house was visited by an owl who swept in through the chimney, out through the fireplace and perched atop the Christmas tree!
Nicely done poem for your burgeoning collection! Xo

Rachelle,
Thank you for the wonderful review. I think if an owl came down my chimney I'd freak out and then Kratos the Pit Bull would tear the house apart trying to get it.

And my Christmas wish would be that he was successful! I grew up in the country, and one night a BAT swooped into the kitchen! I screamed so high and so long and so loud that I ruined his sonar!! He dropped to the ground and was writhing around in agony, and let me tell you, that was WAY scarier to see than him swooping around out of reach. Nothing that flies should come into a house. Period.
-
True story!! Growing up we lived in a converted one room school house and it had a bell on top. I was about 5 or 6, but I remember the bats flying around at dusk. Mother always said they would get in our hair. What a great mother.
-
HAHAHA! Yeah, moms have such a knack to terrify their kids for life, don't they? My daughter was unbelievably messy about her room, and I'm a fussbudget. So one day when I waa especially exasperated with her, I said I hoped that someday she'd get a child like ME. "Don't SAY that!!" She screamed "Oh, I'm sayin' it. Because we, if you get someone like YOU, what will you care? You'll just be little messy things together. Oh no; I hope you get a neat little fussbudget just like ME!!" And Cecelia, she is now almost 43, married...and childless. Did that backfire on me or WHAT!! No grandchildren for me!!! * sighhh *
-
Rachelle,
That's too funny. We always wish that on our children. I am dealing with my husband's sin. Our youngest is just like him. God help me.
I don't have any grandchildren either. So I ""adopted" my sisters grandkids. They're 18 and 19, but the granddaughter has a 1 1/2 year old. I held him when he was 2 weeks old and haven't seen him since. They live in Upstate NY and I in Texas. Next time he sees me he's going to have that stranger danger thing going on, Oh, well what can you do.

No, kids gravitate to the warmest spot in the room, and it seems to me that's you!
I live in Upstate NY, too! In what town/city do they live?
-
I grew up in Watertown and my sister still lives in Calcium. What about you?
-
East Rochester.
Watertown I know, of course. But Calcium I'll have to look up...unless that was an Autocorrect change? One time, I received an Autocorrected text from one of my piano moms that stated she needed to cancel her daughter's herpes. I responded, "i don't blame you...but you can DO that?" When she read how her word 'lesson' had changed, she was horrified. But it did give us the best laugh!
-
Calcium is about 10 minutes outside of Watertown. The Army Base Fort Drum is there.
-
Yep; I just read up on it!

Owls are in fact very fantastic birds. We don't often see them because they are night birds, but I saw one in the middle of the day at my house. When I lived in Las Cruces it was perched on the top of my car, which was sitting under a weeping willow tree, and when it took off. It's wingspread. Must've been closed to 3 feet across. It was a beautiful bird.

Patricia,
They are beautiful birds. I went outside at about 545Am and one was sitting on the low peak of the house. I didn't so much as see him, rather I heard him swoosh by my head. Scared the snot out of me.

What amazing pin-point focus and determination! An excellent symbol of resolution, as the owl goes about its business of survival. Thank you for sharing your pleasing and inspiring Renga poem, Cecilia, and Happy New Year to you! Debbie

Debbie,
Thank you for the wonderful review. I appreciate at your feedback.
I don't know if I have the Da-dah down yet, but it dawned on me with my Beat of my Drum that I needed to keep the syllable count for each line right around the same. Can you give me some feedback on that poem as far as iambic pentameter. I really do appreciate your feedback.

Sis,
Thank you for the beautiful review. I came up with swoosh, because the morning the owl flew of my roof it made a swooshing sound.
Love ya lots,
Cecilia

Ooh! I liked the "swooshes in" as it really captures the sound and motion of the owl coming in to get his prey. I'm glad you are participating in Gypsy's Renga book! The only comment I have is your second line has 8 syllables instead of the 7.
