Hmm. I wonder if the narrator is a neighbor, a friend, or the ex-partner. At any case, there is a keen observation of the external details of the man passing by but there is no clue about how he feels about the end of the relationship.

Thank you very much Helen. I was studying different CinQuain verses today and thought I would write one. I have also read that Billy Collins (former US Poet Laureate) likes to use mystery as a poetic tool. This is my first attempt... especially in such a short verse. Hope to do better next time :)

Great job! I love it when a short verse can tell a story!

Your artwork choice really sets the mood. I like your beginning and ending words. Great cinquain form. Your word choices help establish the mood, too. It's easy to hear the thudding footsteps, and the damp leaves are easy to imagine. It's interesting that you ask a question, speculating about whether the man regrets his actions. It's like a story in a short poem. Great work. judi

There is a touch of sadness in this poem as an argument might have caused some heartache here, I enjoyed your subtle words Melissa, love Dolly x x x x

A poignant cinquain that's perfectly highlighted by artwork that reflects tears - in the form of rain. The footsteps add to the sadness. Well done! You always mail it.

Who knows how people think? Only God knows the true heart of everyone who walk, has walked, and indeed, who will exist, but those unanswered questions remain a mystery, well done Melissa, good question and cinquain, blessings Roy

Uh-oh. I think that's one of those If You Have To Ask, Then You Know It Was A Mistake kinds of questions. The quintessential rhetorical variety.

VERY well done. Alluring, enigmatic and allows for all kinds of possibilities - exactly what an audience like ours loves!

Xoxo

Hey there Rachelle. Thanks so much. I have been looking at CinQuain poems today and felt like writing one with a bit of mystery. I read that Billy Collins (former US Poet Laureate) likes to use it in his work. Anyway, much appreciated, my friend.

I wonder if the person on the other side of the gate is hoping for him to stop or not, maybe they are both a bit unsure, what an excellent cinquain poem, full of intrigue, very well written and presented****kahpot

Wow, Melissa, I loved this poem. It just says it all doesn't it? The imagery is wonderful and the fading footsteps leaves and uncertainty which is not easily explained. Ulla xcx
