A poignant piece that captures the pain of loss beautifully. The loneliness is highlighted by the artwork / shrouded in grief. We can all relate to this touching poem.

Although I come here and delight in your prose, Wendy -- You have reminded me how very powerful your poetry is! I love the "S" alliteration -
Most of all you've chosen the perfect lines to- capture that feeling none of us want to feel, but all of us, at some time, must!

Thank you Karenina. Yes, you are right. It can be a very hard and debilitating process to go through. I am glad you are enjoying my small poetry offerings too.

This poem and picture, though very brief, portray well the coldness of grief. I like the alliteration in the first line, and hope this does very well in the contest.

-A very good image and nice presentation, Wendy.
-The syllable count is good along with the topic.
-A very good opening line sets the scene with
effective imagery and alliteration.
-Good description of the man and his feelings.
-The sunshine and light can symbolize his
loss of the person who was most dear to him.
-A very good concluding line.
-Good luck in the contest.

What a haunting scene you paint here, Wendy! This skilfully composed 3 line verse captures the emptiness and darkness of loss, personified by the coldness of night. Well done and good luck! Debbie

Well presented. We all go through the grieving process. Some, like Queen Victoria never get over the loss. What a waste, sixty-five years she dressed in black, grieving for Prince Albert. I hope your poem is fiction. We all work out way through, knowing it will get better. K xx

Thank you for your lovely review. Yes, fiction, but perhaps prompted by my brother-in-law who was bereft after the loss of his quite young wife. He entered into a dark and cold place for a long time.

Oh my! You certainly made the most of these three lines! The coldness and empty life that remains after the loss of a loved one is all but palpable here. Excellent job, and wonderful picture you found to accentuate it!! Good luck in the contest!! xoxox

Your three line poem expresses well the emotions that one feels at a time of loss. Whether or not that are actually in the shadows of a cold night, the condition of loss to death feels this way. Nicely written.
