This is so cute!!!! I love old people. Some people function really well in old age. My great grandma drove in town into her early 90's. And she lived in her own house until her late 90s. Great job, I really enjoyed it

Yes, I had someone in my life like your 3rd cousin, Grace. This is fun though because we love them and appreciate independence. On the other hand, we want them, and others, safe. It was rough when my relative had to give up her car keys. We had the doctor tell her and that helped.
My neighbor across the street died this spring. He was 96. He had been been driving until the day his car backed into our ditch, at 94, and was stuck there. He had macular degeneration and was blind in one eye yet still drove. It took that to make him give up his car keys but we we glad no one was hurt except for the Cadillac. And ... our front yard.... But no biggie when we're talking about life.
I gave up my car at 54, the day my eyesight started leaving. I couldn't even make it to work and had to pull off the interstate and call for help. I never drove again.
Thanks for sharing, my friend. I hope everything is well with you and yours.

thanks, Sally. Actually, this is pure fiction and it was fun to write. As I am nearing Grace's age I can empathize with her.
I need to get somebody to take a current picture of me. My posted one is probably 10 or so years old.
Thanks for your comments! and I hope all is well with you and yours, too! :)

Hi pome lover
I enjoyed your poem about your cousin Grace ,well written with a good meter and Rhyme.
Good on her for not being 'old' and still active in mind and body. I love Sudoku also and do it every day also.
Good poem
Cheers Chris

You're so cute! I love, "Go Grace". Well, to tell you the truth, She is total fiction, or rather part fiction, part me. I am getting "up there," and plan to still be driving in the future! Maybe I need a dog to let me know if I'm getting too close to somebody :)
Do you play Sudoku online? I spend way too much time playing, but I rationalize that it's keeping my mind sharp. (as much as possible:)
Thanks for your neat comments.

Good for her. She's a spunky lady and will probably live to 100! I enjoyed reading this well rhymed and metered poem. Love the humor and the message that age really is just a number and don't let it keep you from living and enjoying life.

thanks, Nancy! I have to say she is fiction. But as you say, she sort of symbolizes spunk in the elderly.
I appreciate your lovely comments!

More power to Grace! It's delightful age hasn't slowed her down and that she maintains a "can do" attitude. She's a wonderful example for others. Here's hoping she lives past 90. True, she has had a good long run. Excellent subject to write about. I don't think I could do Sudoku, but I do the Cryptoquotes. Does that count? Excellent rhyme and flow, and a delight to read. judi

Thanks, Judi! Total fiction, I'm afraid.
I was looking for a picture to go with it and when I saw this one, I loved it and had to add to the poem :)
I love online Sudoku - and sure you could do it. It keeps the old noggin functioning and is fun. You ought to try it. I'm not familiar with Cryptoquotes. Will have to check it out. Cryptoquotes.com?
Thanks again for your neat comments and the wonderful 6!!! Both truly appreciated.

You're very welcome. I'm sure we both know people who are like Grace. They don't let age become an issues. I work the Cryptoquotes from my newspaper. There is a quotation in a code in which one letter stands for another. You have to guess the quotation by figuring out what the letters stand for. I've not seen them on the internet. judi

oh, well let me know if you ever try Sudoku. It's addictive.

What a delightful upbeat write! I love the rhyme and meter that helps it to flow merrily along. It's the kind of poem that just cries out to be read aloud to an appreciative audience.
Personally I believe the spirit is ageless although the body has its issues. LOL
"Grace" is a perfect name.
My own "Grace" is my 96 yr old friend who is still an expert driver and who continues to oversee her landscaping business. She sports a hearing aid and needs a walker to get around. For the rest she's kind, smart, elegant, funny and flirtatious!
Thanks for posting this and raising the vibrations of readers like me. Here's a toast to all the Graces in our beautiful world!
Blessings, Julia

I enjoyed reading your poem. It is so unbeat and positive about old age. I believe it is a mindset. The poem is well written and interesting. Very good job.

The photo set the stage for the reading of said poem. The dogs eyes tell it all.
Your poem was expertly written, in unified cadence and meter.
No glass that I could see or read.
Nicely done...

Yes, I was looking at grandma pictures and when I saw that one, I laughed, and my imagination took it from there.

What a delightful poem this is! The meter and rhyme are perfect, such a good rhythm that keeps it flowing along so I couldn't wait to get to the next stanza. I can empathize with Cousin Grace--a lot! My grandma and dad were the same (Grandma lived to 91, Dad was 3 mos. short of 100!). And, as I roll into those "old age" years, I think I'm still able to do all those things, but I have had to make some concessions. Bravo to Grace! You did a wonderful job with this one! Congratulations!

You are so sweet. Thank you for all your lovely comments!
I must tell you that this was pure fiction. I saw the picture, which I love, and my imagination took care of the rest. But the fun thing is those who've read this have talked about elderly relatives, or the readers, themselves, who can empathize with Grace. I am so pleased that you liked it and thank you, most sincerely, for the 6!

I adore this poem! It brought me such a smile and I could visualize every bit of your story as if I knew third cousin Grace. And don't get me started on that photo! LOL Just wonderful. Your humor is on point and lovely.

Bless you, Marilyn! What neat things to say.
I have to tell you it is all fiction. And as for the picture, I found it after I'd finished the poem, and just had to use it, so I had to add a bit to the story. Anyway, many thanks for your great comments and for the lovely 6!!!!
